The proposed removal of juries from rape trials in Scotland, the Scottish Feminist Judgements Project

I’m pleased to bring you details of an important email I received earlier today, my thanks to Warren Perkin:

Dear Mike – I apologise if you’re already well aware of this lot, but I’ve only just found out about them, and I’m shocked. I was catching up on stories from Spiked (16th Jan 2022), and saw that Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain QC, Scotland’s top prosecutor, wants to remove juries from rape trials in Scotland – here. In this decision, she has apparently been guided by feminist “research” carried out at the University of Glasgow by Fiona Leverick, who believes that the public do not have the ‘correct’ attitude towards such cases – urging that they be decided by ‘trauma informed’ [J4MB: radical feminist trained] judges only. Ms Leverick seems to be trying to soften up the Scottish public (Daily Record 27th December 2021), and has stated her arguments within law publications [Leverick: The International Journal of Evidence and Proof, Vol 24, issue 3, p255-279 (2020), available here.]

Ms Leverick appears part of the Scottish Feminist Judgements Project (SFJP), which aims to ‘re-imagine the processes and outcome of judgements in key cases, in a manner that is more attentive to issues of gender and power dynamics.’ [J4MB – check out the link to see what feminist “justice” looks like. Three of the 18 “judges” are men, to their eternal shame – here.]

As such, it has the feminist MO written all over it. Publish dodgy data and arguments, have it reviewed and cited by feminist colleagues in their own publications, and it soon becomes ‘fact’. Then, use your contacts to influence Government policy.

This can’t be right. I know that similar tactics have been attempted south of the border (Ann Coffey?), in attempts to increase conviction rates in such cases, but thought that Dominic Raab had offered a guarantee of trial by jury.

Wonder how the SFJP would ‘re-imagine’ the Alec Salmond case….?

With best regards

Warren Perkin
