An interesting development. The BBC report Wakeford is the MP for Bury North so you won’t be surprised to learn he’s the MP for Bury South. Labour won the seat with comfortable majorities at the six general elections between 1997 – 2017, Wakeford won the seat for the Tories in 2019 with a majority of just 402 votes over the female Labour candidate. It’s almost a cast-iron certainty the seat would have reverted to Labour at the next general election, so it doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to work out why he jumped ship.
