Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder – up to 17% of children in the UK could have symptoms, according to latest estimates

One of the subjects I’ll be talking about during my ICMI speech is Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. It’s long been the #1 cause of avoidable permanent mental health damage in the Western world, but of course women aren’t held accountable for it. A very interesting article by Cheryl McQuire of the University of Bristol, published in 2018, is here. An extract:

Consistent with our findings, international studies suggest that FASD is the leading cause of developmental disability worldwide. Studies from the USCanadaItalyPoland and Croatia estimate that 1-10% of school children are affected. In South Africa, up to 28% of children could be affected.
