Democrat Rep. Tulsi Gabbard introduces bill to protect pain-capable preborn children

Excellent and detailed article at Live Action that explores Gabbard’s stance (and record) on abortion – she reportedly had said, in 2019, that she was once pro-life but now holds “a more libertarian position on this issue.” Perhaps it’s struck her that if the core of libertarianism is the non-aggression principle, then that should extend even to the most vulnerable members of her society?

Who’s that Gal? Wonder Woman returns, just don’t call her a feminist

Interesting article in The Sydney Morning Herald in which Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins discusses differences in the kinds of action men and women viewers like to see. According to the article:

She wasn’t making either movie as a feminist statement, she says. She was making a superhero movie, the kind she’s always loved, with a big nod to the ’80s directing styles of Robert Zemeckis or Steven Spielberg: a clean classic character arc, big baddies, big action, a great big golden suit.”

And this is why the Wonder Woman franchise is good cinema, unlike some I won’t mention…

Not All Men: Why Feminists Don’t Get It

A solid article on Wokefather pointing out the inconsistency in the feminist insistence that ‘not all men’ (#NAMALT) is a problematic defence of good men whilst leaning on ‘not all women’ (#NAWALT) in their quests for opportunities for women.

Renaissance Youth Leaders Forum, Philippines, challenges “toxic masculinity”

Socio-civic organization Renaissance Youth Leaders Forum (RYLF) has been formed in Silliman University in the Philippines and its purpose is to bridge social, cultural, political, and economic divides and try to spark a positive change in the community.
The organization recently started a campaign against toxic masculinity named #FightTheStigma and #UNMUTE.

The message of the campaign says that both men and women suffer from toxic masculinity, and it happens to everyone – both online and in real life.

The organization shared a powerful series of posters to illustrate this point and show how society pressures men and distorts their relationship with the world around them and most importantly – with themselves.”

Writes Femalista.

The organisation (RYLF) itself tweeted the following to explain the motives behind the campaign:

J4MB fully rejects their hypothesis. Toxic (aka hegemonic) masculinity is, as Martin Seager has suggested, not a scientific theory but rather a political fad. Not useful for exploring or explaining the behaviour or experiences of men and boys, at best. Given Seager’s finding that positive attitudes to masculinity provide a barrier against suicidality – potentially, fatally, harmful, at worst.

The campaign posters range from the utterly banal:

To tiresome:

To utterly missing the point that MRAs have been making for decades: that when men ask for help they find a dearth of services at their disposal and too often dismissal, minimisation and ridicule:

To offensive and objectionable:

To truly troubling:

Can you imagine a meme depicting a wounded woman with a suggestion that she takes responsibility for her actions?

#FightTheStigma #MenAreGood

An exchange with “KomodoDragon”, a supporter of Laura Bates

On 10 October, about 10 weeks ago, Elizabeth Hobson published a beautiful short video, A Challenge to Laura Bates (5:34). More recently, on 10 December, I published my less beautiful and longer video, Mike Buchanan’s Challenge of Laura Bates (32:19).

We’ve been hoping for one or more of Bates’s supporters to post comments, and the wait finally came to an end this afternoon, with comments from “KomodoDragon” on my video. This is our exchange so far:

KomodoDragon

Mike, you are one sad little man.

My reply:

On the contrary, (a) I am a happy man of average height, 5’9″, (b) I’m positively ecstatic in comparison with Special Snowflake, (c) I laugh at your attempts to shame me, and to understand why, you should visit my website Laughing at Feminists. Are you a supporter of serial lying feminist Ms Bates, and if so, would you like to watch the ICMI20 interview of Michelle Blackhill, once a supporter of Ms Bates, but now a happy well-adjusted woman with a sense of moral agency?

Her reply:

absolute moron, nasty stupid moron

My reply:

Could you be more specific? Give examples of where I’ve been either stupid, or moronic? Both adjectives apply to you, clearly, but I’ve never had them applied to me. No rush, take your time.

Her reply:

You don’t like equality for women. That makes you a moron. morons are stupid. HTH

My reply:

Thank you for another profound response. Where is your evidence to substantiate (that means “to back up”) your claim, “You don’t like equality for women”? Maybe you should ask Mummy if it’s a good thing for her angry little daughter to post comments on a political party’s website?

I look forward to more responses from the dingbat.

Ending on 24 December – Law Commission summary consultation on hate crimes, including making crimes motivated by misogyny hate crimes

Our thanks to Groan for reminding us that the Law Commission consultation on hate crimes ends in five days’ time, 24 December. The overview is here, more information on the project here, the (544-page) full consultation paper here, the (24-page) summary of the consultation paper here. I would urge you to complete the consultation questions, they shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes unless you add plenty of commentary (which you should, if you can spare the time).

Chapter 12 (Gender or Sex) of the full consultation paper will be the subject of the rest of this blog piece. It spans pp. 230-277, but you’ll need to add 11 to the page numbers in the search box to get to the correct page e.g. key in p.241 to reach p.230.

The 47 pages of Chapter 12 are little more than feminist propaganda from beginning to end, with all the myths and lies we’ve come to expect. It would take a week to critique it from beginning to end, so I’ll just highlight a few examples of the mischief. The page numbers I’ll give are those printed on the report, so add 11 to reach the correct pages. The next two paragraphs are over pp.233/4:

12.20 The Department for International Development notes that “VAWG is the most widespread form of abuse worldwide, affecting one third of all women in their lifetime”. It can take a range of forms including (but not limited to): intimate partner violence (“domestic violence”); sexual violence (including sexual violence as a tactic of war); acid throwing; honour killings; sexual trafficking; female genital cutting / mutilation (FGC/M); forced and child marriage.

12.21 There is a wealth of evidence that women and girls are disproportionately impacted by these types of crimes.[27] [J4MB emphasis. Nonsense on stilts, for a number of the crimes cited. Footnote 27 reads, “This evidence will be considered in more detail below.” Why limit “genital cutting / mutilation” to FEMALE GC/M? Because that’s the only way to present females as being disproportionately the victims, when they’re very clearly not. I doubt that even 1.0% of victims of GC/M are female.] More recently, the targeting of women for online harassment and abuse has emerged as a significant concern; an issue we noted in our 2018 Scoping Report on Abusive and Offensive Online Communications.

We turn to the section on “Violence Against Women and Girls” (pp.233-6). Just two paragraphs, at the end, relate to male victims:

12.28 As we will evidence below, women and girls are disproportionately victims of the crimes associated with VAWG. [J4MB emphasis: Even if this were true – which it isn’t – what is it doing at the start of a section on male victims? It is, ironically, a manifestation of the report writers’ misandry.] However, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) notes that:

The CPS applies policies fairly and equally to all victims, both male and female, and we are committed to securing justice for all victims. Prevalence studies of these crimes evidence the disproportionate experience of females {J4MB emphasis: Presenting the same lie once is clearly not enough in this short section] however the CPS recognises the experience of male victims and its distressing impact on them. [J4MB: The CPS recognizes that experience? Well, whoop-de-do!!! What is their other option, NOT recognizing that experience?]

12.29 We recognise that men and boys can be victims of crimes associated with VAWG [J4MB emphasis: “can be”? How about the truth, “are”? Would the Law Commission write a report stating that BAME people “can be” victims of crimes?”] and can face various barriers to reporting created by gender myths and stereotypes.

On p.248:

12.78 We also acknowledge that men are victims of sexual offences and domestic abuse in a minority but nonetheless substantial number of cases. 16.1% of CPS prosecutions for rape in 2018-19 involved male complainants. [J4MB emphasis. Under the Sexual Offences Act, 100% of rape perpetrators are male, because only penile insertion is defined as rape.] In 2018-19, where the sex of the complainant was recorded, men constituted 17.5% of complainants in domestic abuse flagged prosecutions. For the most part, sexual offences or domestic abuse cases which involve a male victim also involve a male perpetrator. [J4MB emphasis: Two more feminist myths.]

Julie Burchill: “When the sex war is won prostitutes should be shot as collaborators for their terrible betrayal of all women…”

Our thanks to Dr Jeffrey Ketland, a valued contributor to both ICMI18 and ICMI20, for informing us that his Twitter account was suspended after he criticised a line from an essay penned by Julie Burchill in 1987. From her Wikipedia page:

In the essay “Born Again Cows” published in Damaged Gods (1987), she wrote: “When the sex war is won prostitutes should be shot as collaborators for their terrible betrayal of all women.”

Damaged Gods is available to read for free on Kindle Unlimited, which is how I can give you some of the context of the sentence:

Prostitution reinforces all the old dumb clichés about women’s sexuality; that they are not built to enjoy sex and are little more than walking masturbation aids, things to be DONE TO, things so sensually null and void that they have to be paid to indulge in fornication, that women can be had, bought, as often as not sold from one man to another. [J4MB emphasis. The woman’s as mad as a March hare.]

When the sex war is won prostitutes should be shot as collaborators for their terrible betrayal of all women, for the moral tarring and feathering they give indigenous women who have the bad luck to live in what they make their humping ground.

‘There will be no kosher meat available in Europe’ warns top rabbi after court ruling

An interesting piece published yesterday by The Jewish Chronicle.

We look forward to the day that courts – including the European Court of Justice – put the welfare of young males above “freedom of religion” and commit those who butcher the genitals of young males on religious or cultural grounds to very lengthy prison sentences. Then we might say we live in a civilized country.

Unconscious bias training to be scrapped after review finds it has little effect

A piece published by the Telegraph four days ago. 170,000 civil servants “trained” at an estimated £370,000, just £2.17 each? That’s surely an absurd under-estimate.
