We recently posted a piece about how Robinson College, Cambridge, refused to even meet with us in relation to our wish to explore the possibility of booking their conference facilities in 2022, for an International Conference on Men’s Issues. They claimed that allowing us to book their facilities would breach their policies in relation to Prevent, the government’s anti-terrorism strategy.
In response to this and other efforts by organizations (or private individuals e.g. students and others at Cambridge university) to deny us freedom of speech – memorable examples include Amnesty International (2015), Cambridge and Winchester universities (2019) – I’ve just joined the Free Speech Union. Full membership costs £4.95 for monthly membership, or £49.95 for annual membership. Lower prices (£2.49pcm / £24.95pa) for discount membership.
Established recently by the Spectator columnist Toby Young, the FSU is an ambitious and potentially important venture, and I urge supporters of J4MB to become members, and inform the FSU why they’re doing so. If you join, please post some comments in response to this blog piece, explaining why you’ve done so.
The FSU website has a link to a video (10:08) of Toby Young speaking outside a college at – appropriately for J4MB – Cambridge university. From the home page of the FSU website:
