Domestic violence bill dropped as part of the parliament shutdown

Good news – but the bill will doubtless return at the earliest opportunity. An extract:

Today the former head of the family courts Sir James Munby has urged Mr Johnson to bring back the legislation as soon as MPs return in October.

He said whether or not the PM brings back the bill is a “vital litmus test of his real commitment to safeguarding those in our society who are vulnerable, disadvantaged and oppressed”.

Among other changes the new legislation would introduce an official definition of domestic abuse, which would include economic abuse, stopping the cross-examination of victims [J4MB: ALLEGED victims] by their abusers [J4MB: ALLEGED abusers] in the family courts and establishing a Domestic Abuse Commissioner.

Considering alleged victims to be victims, and alleged abusers to be abusers, is of course a manifestation of #BELIEVEHER = #DONTBELIEVEHIM. In the majority of cases the men involved will not have the money required to fund a solicitor, and will be denied Legal Aid (unlike the woman making possibly false allegation of domestic abuse). So the men will be denied justice, with predictable consequences, including denial of access to their own children in so many cases.
