For most women, a marriage proposal is a priceless memory that they will look back on fondly for the rest of their life.

But when Agne Banuskeviciute said yes to her husband-to-be while on stage at her graduation ceremony, it sparked a Twitter storm that quickly overshadowed the couple’s romantic milestone.

Edgaras Averbuchas, 27, was accused of “bad form” after he proposed to his girlfriend of nine years as she was receiving her Masters degree in English language from the University of Essex.

The gesture, which was filmed and posted online to celebrate their engagement, prompted a backlash from feminists who accused him of “hijacking” her special day because he is “threatened by her intellect”.

A piece by Gary Oliver for TCW, first published by them in March 2018. As a big comedy fan, I particularly enjoyed this reference to Al Murray:

Many of Swinson’s utterances have potentially serious consequences, such as her campaign to criminalise boorish men by having undefined ‘misogyny’ added as yet another category of hate crime. But even the trivial does not escape Jo’s censorious gaze: she was recently back in the news when she publicly questioned the inclusivity of events known as Lib Dem Pint, social gatherings staged by branches to stimulate interest in the party. ‘I’m not saying women can’t drink pints,’ observed Jo, ‘but I suspect if you look at the Venn diagram of people most likely to drink pints it’s not majority women. And personally, if you had a Lib Dem Prosecco, I’d have thought that would be way more inviting.’

It is possible this is Swinson’s idea of a joke, though humour is seldom evident whenever she rails at perceived bias against women. In fact, coming from the impeccably PC Jo, her observation regarding choice of drink is gender stereotyping worthy of Al Murray’s cartoonish Pub Landlord: ‘Pint for the gentleman, glass of wine or fruit-based drink for the lady – them’s the rules!’

Appalling. The information on alleged rape victims’ phone is frequently the only thing that keeps innocent men from serving lengthy prison sentences (Liam Allan being a notable example). Extracts from the Guardian piece:

Police and Crown Prosecution Service requests to download the contents of victims’ mobile phones amount to a “digital strip search” and are unlawful, according to a coalition of 10 civil liberties organisations.

Launching a campaign challenging controversial “digital processing notices” introduced for police in England and Wales earlier this year, the alliance alleges that they are are “highly likely to infringe victims’ data protection and privacy rights” and cause delays to investigations.

The 10 campaign groups are Big Brother Watch, Amnesty International, the Centre for Women’s Justice, End Violence Against Women, the Fawcett Society, Justice, Liberty, Privacy International, Southall Black Sisters and the Survivors Trust…

But victims’ groups and some MPs fear that the policy is deterring rape victims from going to the police. [J4MB: The usual excuse for trampling on men’s human rights.] The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has launched an investigation into the issue…

Harriet Wistrich, [J4MB: The evil barrister is Julie Bindel’s partner] the director of the Centre for Women’s Justice, said: “Many women are fearful of reporting rape for a variety of reasons, including the fear they will be disbelieved or judged. The requirement to hand over the whole of their data history is an additional disincentive to a massively underprosecuted crime.

“We are preparing a legal action on the basis these consent forms are unlawful as they discriminate against women – who are the vast majority of rape victims – as well as a violation of the right to privacy, and of data protection principles.”
