My thanks to Martin for this link to a story about a bizarre ruling in Arizona. Despite a contract existing that stipulated that eggs frozen by a former couple could only be used with the consent of both parties, the Arizona Court of Appeals has ruled that the woman’s desire to become a parent outweighs the man’s desire not to – and that if she does, he may indeed be liable to pay child support.
In response to this case, Arizona legislators have passed a law that allows embryos from a divorced couple to be given to the party who wants to procreate – but also extinguishes the rights and obligations of the other parent.
