“Sons of Feminism: Men Have Their Say” – Janice Fiamengo

I was pleased to find the time to read Janice Fiamengo’s book Sons of Feminism: Men Have Their Say (Janice was the editor) whilst recently flying to and back from a meeting with an important new group of people in Europe, about which I’ll have more to say shortly.

The book is excellent, as you’d expect. Personal accounts from many men – including Dr Jeffrey Ketland, who’ll be speaking at the conference, now less than 8 weeks away, all adding nuances to what we know about men’s suffering at the hands of feminists. Highly recommended. You can order the paperback for £11.62 (free delivery) here, or the Kindle edition, a steal at just £2.94 here. You won’t need a Kindle to read it, Amazon has excellent free downloadable software for computers and other devices.

Don’t forget to leave a review on Amazon, after you’ve read it. It’s always more persuasive for potential buyers if you’ve actually bought the book.

Anna Costin, 30, who walked free from court after making false rape claims against THREE men – including one who was on holiday at the time of ‘attack’ – is now jailed for four years on appeal

Anna Costin has been jailed for falsely accusing three men of rape after the Attorney General challenged her 'lenient' community service sentence

Our thanks to John for this piece in the Mail, two days ago:

A woman who walked free from court despite falsely accusing three men of rape will now be jailed for four years after senior judges agreed her initial sentence was ‘too lenient’.

Anna Costin, 30, was handed three years of community service at Shrewsbury Crown Court in March by Judge Peter Barrie after admitting seven counts of perverting the course of justice.

Costin, who has mental health problems, accused three men of rape and a fourth of physically assaulting her in her own home.

Today London‘s Appeal Court heard one of her victims was able to rubbish her claims with a ‘cast-iron alibi’ because he was away on holiday at the time.

Another victim proved that he had been at home watching TV when she claimed he raped her.

All three men accused of rape had to undergo intrusive medical examinations, and one of them was particularly vulnerable due to his mental state.

Today Lady Justice Hallett agreed that Castin’s suspended sentence was too lenient and the crown court judge had ‘placed too much emphasis on her problems and difficulties’ rather than the ordeal her victims endured.

The appeal court judge said: ‘This pattern of offending was in our view extremely serious. ‘We acknowledge the extent of her difficulties and the considerable care and support which professionals have offered her over the years.

‘However, to our mind the level of seriousness of these offences is such that it was not possible to impose a community penalty’.

She said the court would have substituted a sentence of around six and a half years if Costin had contested the charges.

‘But in light of her guilty pleas and her very substantial personal mitigation we will reduce that figure to four years,’ concluded Lady Justice Hallett.

Costin’s false complaints were levelled against her victims between January and March 2016, the court heard.

She told police how one of the men raped her on the carpet of her own home after first taking off her clothes.

The man was arrested but rapidly released when police confirmed his alibi.

But, soon afterwards, Costin made another complaint of sexual assault against the same man, claiming he had grabbed her breasts.

He was arrested once more, but again released after providing a compelling alibi.

Costin’s second victim was similarly accused of raping her at her home, the court heard.

Costin, of Shrewsbury, lied that he ‘forced her onto the sofa, and pulled down her clothes and raped her’.

Police were able to confirm that he was at home watching TV at the time, but Costin responded by making yet another false rape complaint against him.

This time he was able to prove that he was eating a take-away dinner at home at the time.

Costin’s other offences followed a similar pattern, said Lady Justice Hallett.

Her case reached the Appeal Court as lawyers for the Attorney General, Jeremy Wright QC, attacked her sentence as ‘unduly lenient’.

Lady Justice Hallett, sitting with two other judges, noted Costin’s ‘extensive history of mental health difficulties’.

But she also highlighted the ‘insidious’ nature of her crimes, which had a deeply traumatic impact on her four victims.

In letting her walk free, the Crown Court judge ‘placed too much emphasis on her problems and difficulties, and insufficient emphasis on the consequences for the victims and for the criminal justice system’, she added.

Lady Justice Hallett substituted a four-year prison sentence for the community order.

Costin was ordered to surrender to police custody in Shrewsbury by noon tomorrow to start her sentence.

The Irrational World of Kate Smurthwaite

Our thanks to John for pointing me to this piece (video, 40:28) by Gary Orsum, in 2016. Early on there’s a discussion between Smurfwit and myself on The Stephen Nolan Show, in which she used the term “glass waterfall”, when she meant the baseless feminist conspiracy theory of the “glass cliff”, and was satisfyingly disturbed when I corrected her on the point.

Life sentence (minimum 12 years, anyway) for spurned lover Berlinah Wallace (48) who disfigured ex-boyfriend Mark Van Dongen (29) in acid attack. After a year of extreme suffering, he was taken at his own request to a Belgian clinic to have his life ended. The CPS’s attempt to have Wallace walk free failed.

Berlinah Wallace was jailed for a minimum of 12 years

A piece in today’s Times by John Simpson, Crime Correspondent:

A former fashion student whose ex-boyfriend chose euthanasia after she doused him with sulphuric acid has been jailed for life.

Berlinah Wallace, 48, woke up Mark van Dongen to tell him that “if I can’t have you no one can”, before throwing a glassful of acid over him, causing horrendous injuries, in an act that the judge described as “pure evil”.

Wallace was jailed for life with a minimum of 12 years at Bristol crown court yesterday after being found guilty of throwing a corrosive substance with intent in September 2015. She had been cleared of murder and manslaughter.

Mr Van Dongen, 29, an engineer, had his lower left leg amputated and was left paralysed from the neck down, blinded in his left eye and scarred across 25 per cent of his body.

He chose to die at a clinic in Belgium, where his family live, because of what doctors described as his “unbearable physical and psychological suffering”. The trial heard evidence he had recorded in his hospital bed, in which he was only faintly audible.

Mrs Justice Nicola Davies told Wallace, a South African: “Your intention was to burn, disfigure and disable Mark van Dongen so that he would not be attractive to any other woman. It was an act of pure evil.

“You chose your moment for the attack. Mark van Dongen, wearing only boxer shorts, was asleep in the bed which you had shared in your flat. Vulnerable, almost naked, he awoke but had no real opportunity to avoid the focus of your acid attack, namely his face and then his body.”

The judge said that Wallace had bought the 98 per cent concentration sulphuric acid to attack Mr Van Dongen in Bristol because he had left her for another woman.

The judge told her: “Having carried out this horrific attack you then told lie after lie.” Wallace had claimed throughout her trial and recent retrial that her victim had brought her the sulphuric acid in a glass, saying it was water, with the intention that she drink it. She claimed that she had thrown it over him thinking it was water.

Kees van Dongen, the victim’s father, said after the sentencing that the 12-year minimum term was too short. “I never knew she was like this and it turns out she really pulled the wool over our eyes from day one,” he said.

A criminal law solicitor criticised Mrs Justice Davies for allowing the jury to consider verdicts of murder and manslaughter. David Corker, of Corker Binning, said: “The charge of murder in this circumstance was wrong in law and the judge should have so ruled. The proper charge was either attempted murder or GBH with intent.” [J4MB emphasis]

So, firstly, we have a female judge. Maybe a coincidence, maybe not. But why did the CPS bring charges of murder and manslaughter? Even a charge of attempted murder would surely have been wrong. All three charges carried the distinct possibility of Wallace walking away from court a free woman, which was surely the intention of the CPS in the first place.

GBH with intent would have been the appropriate charge, the maximum sentence for which is life imprisonment. It was the charge made against Dr Balvinder Mehat after he allegedly circumcised a boy without obtaining the permission of the mother, who had sole parental responsibility for the boy, and had since his birth, because she and the boy’s Muslim father had separated before the boy was born. The CPS dropped the charges, but following an appeal by a leading human rights lawyer they are due to report shortly on whether they will again bring charges against Mehat and the boy’s parental grandparents.

Police Chase Internet Trolls, Streets Neglected

Our thanks to Mike T for this (video, 16:24). At 15:35 there’s a short extract from an episode of The Stephen Nolan Show on BBC Radio Ulster, on which Kate Smurfwit and I appeared some time ago. After this clip there’s one of the TV interview during which Peter Lloyd effortlessly sent her crazy with just a few words. We’ve never known ‘comedian’ Smurfwit ever respond to any provocation with a humorous response. I’ve had broken bones I found funnier than the Smurf.

The Labour party allows bearded man to stand for woman-only role because he ‘identifies’ as a woman every Wednesday

A tip of the hat to Breitbart for this. The start of the piece:

A middle-aged man with a beard has been accepted to stand for a woman-only position in a local Labour Party branch because he “identifies” as female for a few hours a day once a week.

The Basingstoke Labour Party accepted David Lewis, 45, as an official candidate for their “women’s officer” role, where he will be responsible for representing women’s issues and recruiting more females.

“I self-identify as a woman on Wednesdays, between 6.50 am when my alarm goes off and around midnight when I go to bed,” Mr. Lewis told the Spectator, explaining that he does not change his pronouns, clothes, appearance, or behaviour.

Another Rape Trial Collapses

30,000 Facebook messages linked to the alleged victim cleared Cameron of statutory rape. They were unearthed in a review of the case by Avon and Somerset police. Defence lawyers claim that they were prevented from having access to the exonerating messages.
