United States: Lake Ingle, college student, kicked out of class for telling Professor Alison Downie during her Christianity lecture, that there are only two genders

Our thanks to Martin for this. Extracts, emphasis ours:

After showing a 15-minute TED Talk by transgender ex-pastor Paula Stone Williams discussing the “reality” of “mansplaining,” “sexism from men,” and “male privilege,” the professor asked the women [J4MB: Thereby demonstrating female privilege] in the class to share their thoughts. When no women in the class said anything, Ingle spoke up, challenging the professor on biology and the gender wage gap…

Ingle objected to Downie’s “overall abuse” as a professor “indoctrinating” students because she won’t listen to the other side of a controversial argument.

“You can’t say that anecdotal evidence is fact,” Ingle said. “My professor pretty much just tried to shut me up because she was just letting women speak. I brought up the fact that biologists don’t agree that there’s more than two genders and I said the wage gap she’s referring to – 77 cents on the dollar – that even the New York Times debunked that.”

Groan comments on the South Korea #MeToo story

Regular commenter “Groan” posted some particularly insightful comments in response to the South Korea #MeToo story (South Korean women are being shunned in the office) we posted earlier this afternoon. We thought they merited a blog piece in their own right. He writes:

Well in watching the “Pestminister” story unfold I was struck by the similarity with my experience. Women find it incredibly hard to take responsibility, to “own” their issue. This means they leap to “procedure” or “policy” in an attempt to get someone else to address their beef. I think genuinely they don’t consider how disloyal and duplicitous this is. Hence so many of the men accused are genuinely taken aback at accusations from former colleagues or even those they thought friends (remember all “incidents” were in fact years past).

In my experience women quickly go “nuclear” to avoid directly addressing the smallest issue, with the most trivial motivation, and because they haven’t in fact any empathy with ideas of honesty or loyalty, they are genuinely completely at a loss at any adverse reaction.

I think this is why the advent of social media has proven so dangerous. As it gives an opportunity to make an accusation then “hide” amongst the “Twitter storm”. Almost none of the Pestminister “list” has resulted in any official complaint, because of course an investigation might involve such cowards in “put up or shut up”.

I hope “Pestminster” and “#MeToo” has taught men how very dangerous women are. In a sense it’s not their fault. They will never have been taught responsibility, because they never feel the consequences of their actions. They are dangerous precisely because they are literally irresponsible.

Students say diversity is more important than free speech

Our thanks to Tom for this, on an American website. The gender balance with respect to preferring diversity or free speech is in line with what you’d expect, surely hinting that much of the problem of free speech being denied on university campuses stems from female-dominated student bodies. An extract:

Asked to select which is more important, about 53 percent of the students interviewed for the study picked diversity, versus 46 percent who chose free speech. This data is based on telephone interviews with 3,014 traditional-age students (18 to 24) at 100 four-year institutions, both public and private.

When the authors broke down the data further, they provided a clear picture of what certain campus demographics prioritize. About 61 percent of men favored free speech rights far more than a diverse and inclusive campus (39 percent). Conversely, 64 percent of women believe that diversity is more important, versus 35 percent who picked free speech.

Sir Ken Dodd dies aged 90, two days after marriage

Ken Dodd was funnier than all the female BBC “comedians” combined. A piece in today’s Times:

Sir Ken Dodd, the veteran comedian and fixture of British showbusiness, died yesterday at the age of 90.

Two days earlier the entertainer had married his partner of 40 years, Anne Jones, at their mansion in Liverpool.

Announcing the death, Robert Holmes, Dodd’s publicist, said: “He passed away in the home that he was born in over 90 years ago. He’s never lived anywhere else.”He added: “With Ken gone, the lights have been turned out in the world of variety. He was a comedy legend and a genius.”

A chest infection forced Dodd to cancel his 2018 tour dates. Speaking at the end of February after a six-week stay in hospital, he praised the staff who cared for him but hinted at other health problems: “I need to get my legs sorted out,” he said, “because they seem to take me in a different direction than the one I want to go in.”

Famous for his unruly hair, buck teeth and colourful “tickling sticks”, Dodd became a fixture of television and radio in the Seventies and Eighties.

Over a career spanning 64 years Dodd rarely took a holiday and had planned to return to the stage. However, health concerns were compounded by the length of his sets, which could reach five hours. So long were his performances that the comedian Gary Delaney said in his tribute: “The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and most of Saturday.”

Dodd made his professional debut in 1954 and mainly followed the music hall tradition of fast one-liners, once setting a Guinness World Record for telling 1,500 jokes in three-and-a-half hours.

He spent 24 years with his first fiancée, Anita Boutin, before she died of a brain tumour in 1977. He spent the rest of his life with Ms Jones, a former dancer who appeared in his shows and acted as his manager.

“They had been together for 40 years,” Mr Holmes said. “It’s a love story to beat them all.”

In 1989 Dodd was charged with tax evasion. At the trial it was revealed that the Diddy Men – characters he created and used in his act – were often played by local children from stage schools who were never paid.

Dodd was also revealed to hold little money in his bank account, having £336,000 in cash in suitcases in his house. When asked by the judge “What does a hundred thousand pounds in a suitcase feel like?”, Dodd said: “The notes are very light, m’lord.”

He was represented by George Carman, QC, who said: “Some accountants are comedians, but comedians are never accountants”. He was later acquitted.

Dodd was also one of the most successful singers of the 1960s, with hits including Love is Like A ViolinHappiness and Tears, which was the third besttelling single of the decade. Only The Beatles sold more with She Loves You and I Want To Hold Your Hand.

He was made an OBE in 1982 and knighted in the 2017 new year honours for services to entertainment and charity. His last performance was at The Auditorium in Liverpool on December 28.

“Outrage” as new figures show there are nearly four times more men in the highest-paid professions than women

Our thanks to Mike P for this garbage in the Mail. We’re going to see much more of it in the coming weeks as firms reveal their utterly meaningless ‘gender pay gaps’. An extract:

But some now have following pressure from campaigners. Sophie Walker, leader of the Women’s Equality Partner, said: ‘These figures show gender inequality runs through every level if the economy. It is scandalous that women still make up barely a fifth of top earners, and this discrepancy is not confined to those in well-paid jobs.’

It comes as the Women’s Budget Group, which analyses the impact of Government policies, warned of pledge to raise personal tax allowance to £12,500.

It said the increase will disproportionately benefit men because 66 percent of those who do not earn enough to benefit are women. [J4MB: Workers who earn over £12,500 disproportionately benefit over those who don’t. More men than women earn over £12,500, so men disproportionately benefit. Anything which disproportionately benefits men, regardless of the reason, is to be deplored. Anything which disproportionately benefits women, regardless of the reason, is to be welcomed.]
