MEN LEAN OUT: Male managers now less likely to mentor women

I started my business career in 1979, as a graduate trainee with Beecham, and at that time mentoring in the business world was all but unknown. It became more popular over time, invariably with men mentoring women. The unstated objective was to capture knowledge accumulated by men over lengthy periods of time, and hand it on a plate to women, so the careers of the latter could be accelerated at the expense of male colleagues. Mentoring is just one of many manifestations of men having a stronger work ethic than women, the latter wanting senior positions without having to put in the time and effort their male colleagues have to.

I was interested to learn of a consequence of the workplace sexual harassment debacle, men are becoming less inclined to mentor women. About damned time. Let’s see women competing with men as “equals”. Our thanks to Sean for this (video, 9:49).

  1. Yup, it’s pay back time.

Or at least self defence time.

What on earth did they expect for heaven’s sake?

Now they appear to be saying ok, you’ve been attacked we acknowledge that, but you still shouldn’t try to defend yourself but continue to put Our Interests First?

    Now I’m getting cross…

  2. Let’s see how long this new trend lasts before we celebrate. The social pressure to give women the fruits of one’s hard earned labour and tell them they are heroines is a hard one to impede without being destroyed for “counter-revolutionary behaviour”. Still, it is nice to see a flicker of male self preservation. I am beginning to detect a sea change in attitudes online, where people can still speak their minds without being ‘black-bagged’ by the feminazis.

  3. A step in the right direction ! Next thing after stopping mentoring women, male workers need to stop overlooking women’s many workplace deficiencies and inadequacies on gentleman’s grounds. Then let’s see how equal women really are…. About time 2+2 equaled 4 again….

  4. Where have all the good mentors gone? I recall being shown something once and expected to get on with it afterwards, with grudging indulgence for the first or second mistakes and intimations of dismissal for any subsequent cock ups. ‘Mentoring’ consisted of ‘you’ve been shown what to do, now get on with it, and look sharp about it’. Women haven’t got a bloody clue how the world of men works and any beliefs they have that they can do what we do are pure fantasy.
