Harriet Harman is ‘launching a bid to replace John Bercow as Commons Speaker’, Labour sources reveal

A nightmare of a story in today’s Mail on Sunday. The start:

Veteran MP Harriet Harman is hoping to capitalise on the ‘Pankhurst factor’ by making a bid to become Commons Speaker, Labour sources say.

Amid reports that John Bercow may signal later this year when he will stand down, Labour’s former deputy leader is understood to be planning to enter the race to succeed him.

In the year when Westminster is preparing to mark the centenary of the Suffragette triumph over voting rights for women, [J4MB: WRONG. The Suffragettes delayed female emancipation. We refer you to William Collins’s magnum opus Universal Suffrage in the UK – The Videos and Steve Moxon’s The Woman Racket (2008)] feminist Harman would be well placed to win support on both sides of the House.

  1. It seems to have been some sort of miracle that after years and years of twisting and turning the rules, scheming and plotting and rank hypocrisy in her marriage and slotting her husband into a safe seat. She’s not labour leader and leader and deputy are men! One presumes she’ll be insisting on an all women shortlist. Oh the joy if some female right winger gets in.

  2. “It wouldn’t be possible because there aren’t enough airports for all the men who’d want to flee the country.” – Can you imagine if she’d said something like that about any other group?

    • Indeed – she was of course referring to the response of men if she’d become Labour party leader. For all her bluster, she never sought the top job (likewise the odious Jo Swinson for the Lib Dems). Ideologically-driven but workshy, both of them.

  3. Pankhurst was a terrorist: https://news.sky.com/story/women-would-have-got-the-vote-earlier-if-not-for-suffragette-terrorists-11227772

Harriet Harman’s love of this woman confirms exactly what I thought of her, namely she is an extremist who should be blocked from any serious political office thanks to the dangerous zealotry of her views. Free speech doesn’t mean you should get a political promotion, especially when your views are founded on a persecution complex that makes it easy for you to dehumanize half the population.
