The Guardian: “Step aside, Johnnie! Jane Walker whisky to celebrate women.”
Pathetic. I vow to never again buy, or drink, any spirits sold by Diageo. Cue their share price collapse. Extracts:
Johnnie Walker is rolling out a female version of its whisky in the US – Jane Walker.
A limited edition run of its 12-year-old Black Label blended whisky will feature a striding woman on the label rather than the top-hatted man normally associated with the brand.
The brand’s London-based owner, Diageo, the world’s largest spirits company, is hoping the March launch will widen the appeal of the product while celebrating women. [J4MB: For what, precisely?]…
For every bottle of Jane Walker sold, Diageo will donate $1 (72p) to organisations supporting women’s causes. The release, on 1 March, comes a week before International Women’s Day. [J4MB: The company’s donations to organisations supporting men’s causes (homelessness, domestic violence, prostate cancer, false rape allegations…] have been, it’s probably safe to say, £0.00, although the overwhelming majority of the Scotch made by Diageo (as for all Scotch manufacturers) is consumed by men.]
Let a woman in your life and… (this will happen)

Meghan Markle says women ‘don’t need help to find their voice’ as she urges Royals to harness Time’s Up and Me Too campaigns
Our thanks to Mike P for this piece in the Telegraph. The start of the piece:
Meghan Markle has signalled her support for the Me Too and Time’s Up movements, suggesting the younger generation of the Royal Family could harness their momentum to “shine a light” on women’s empowerment.
Ms Markle, who appeared on stage with her future husband and in-laws to discuss their charity work, said there was “no better time” to continue to raise the profile of women’s voices, as she referenced the high profile movements against sexual harassment by name.
A planned comedy gig about whether feminism was stifling free speech has been cancelled – after a backlash from feminists, including Kate Smurfwit
Our thanks to Tim for this.

Alexia Baron: Here comes the son (to have his genitals mutilated)
An appalling piece in The Jewish Chronicle. Alexia Baron, the mother, appears to have not the slightest understanding of the permanent damage she’s proudly had inflicted on her son. Excerpts:
Early that morning, hearing our guests begin to arrive for davening, my anxiety reached new heights. At the time of the brit, I had been a mother for just about a week but your natural instinct is to be protective and I did not want my son to be in pain. I have to admit the procedure was over and done with quite quickly. Mordechai Cohen, the mohel, even made a joke once it was finished, saying the crying I heard was not from the actual procedure but happened when Jackson’s nappy was being undone. [J4MB: What a hilarious man the mohel is, despite being a criminal who inflicts at least ABH, and almost certainly GBH, on baby boys.]…
What would my advice be to other mothers facing a bris or pidyon haben? I’d say: Breathe. The brit will scare you but it will be OK. Babies are little miracles and while they cry for a few seconds during the procedure, the pain goes quickly and you will feel proud to have continued and be a part of thousands of years of tradition that make up the Jewish people.
For the pidyon haben, make sure to take it all in. The ceremony happens when your son is 30 days old, so by now you will be exhausted, not having slept for a month and having organised one event after another. But take time to embrace another opportunity to celebrate your little one.
My hopes and dreams for my son now are that he grows up to be a generous, kind, humble and loving person. Most importantly, I hope that he too will pass on important traditions and mitzvahs such as brit milah and pidyon haben to his children and their children for generations to come. What more could a mother want? [J4MB emphasis]
Patrick Graham, 61, retired social worker, false rape accusation survivor, will be speaking at the conference
Last month we posted a piece titled, Five men that had paedophile ring charges dropped hit out at ‘serial fantasist’ accuser. We’re delighted to report that one of the men – Patrick Graham, 61, retired social worker – has agreed to speak at the conference. We’ve just updated the speakers page with his image, and the following text:
Patrick Graham – “Sex offence fantasists, and their police enablers”
A survivor of the ongoing plague of false allegations of rape/historic sex abuse, Patrick is busy campaigning for changes to the criminal justice system, and justice for all the many falsely accused, using skills developed during a media and community development portfolio career. He is a busy moderator of the accused.me.uk forum which has doubled in size to 1,500 members in the past 9 months.

A letter to the boys and young men of America
BBC survey: More than 97% of criminal lawyers in England and Wales have experienced disclosure of evidence failings in the last 12 months
Our thanks to Rick for this. An extract:
William works as a teacher and is married with grown up children.
Last year, he was charged with sexual assault following a complaint from a 17-year-old girl. She claimed he touched her inappropriately in a local shop and the allegation was backed up by a friend.
Her friend said she saw him approaching the teenager, his hand stretching forward to grope her. William denied the allegation.
In police interview, William was told the CCTV taken in the shop was of poor quality and too far away to pick him out, but his defence solicitor, Abu Kibla, said seeing the evidence was crucial.
He made six requests to the CPS to disclose the evidence, before receiving the footage three weeks before the trial.
Mr Kibla described finally reviewing the CCTV as a “eureka moment”.
“You can see he’s standing there selecting a sandwich; nothing untoward happened, so clearly a massive piece of evidence, integral to the whole case.”
At magistrates’ court, the case was dismissed with no case to answer, citing the footage as the reason.
Thames Valley Police said officers carried out a full investigation into the incident, and followed standard procedure throughout.
The CPS said it was “satisfied” the case was dealt with correctly.
“The prosecution put their case, the defence make their arguments and the court makes their decision. That’s the criminal justice system in action,” it said.
But William says the impact on his life has been huge. He is still suspended from teaching pending an internal investigation by his employer.
“I’m still nowhere near justice. It should never have made it to court. There was never any case to answer.
“Had I been found guilty, I would be permanently on a paedophile register. It’s a life-changing allegation.”
