Germaine Greer says women ‘spread legs’ for Weinstein movie roles

Our thanks to Cheryl for this. The start of the piece:

Iconic feminist Germain Greer has stunned fans by saying it’s too late for women who “spread their legs” for Harvey Weinstein movie roles to start “whingeing.”

The 78-year-old spoke out about her distaste for the #MeToo movement, railing at actresses who say Harvey Weinstein assaulted them.

“If you spread your legs because he said ‘be nice to me and I’ll give you a job in a movie’ then I’m afraid that’s tantamount to consent, and it’s too late now to start whingeing about that,” Greer explained, before being honoured as Australian of the Year.

Domestic abusers told to say sorry to partner by police

Our thanks to Sean for this. Time again we see journalists – almost invariably female journalists – in the mainstream media uncritically link to and cite from reports by radfem organizations such as The Fawcett Society, as if those institutions are credible. Extracts from the piece:

Police are dealing with domestic abuse cases by simply making the abuser say sorry to their partner on the doorstep, a Fawcett Society report has found.

Research by the charity found a “worrying number” of domestic violence incidents are resolved using the most basic level of restorative justice, which “can often be little more than an apology“…

Sam Smethers, chief executive of the Fawcett Society, said the practice left women in a “powerless” position where they are asked to accept their abuser’s apology. [J4MB: Note the implication that all victims of DV are women.]

“You’re not seeing the true nature of the relationship and the true nature of what’s going on. It’s almost certainly going to put her in a very risky position,” she told the Daily Telegraph.

Remaining silent during a rape could be conceived as consent, Alison Saunders says

Our thanks to Richard for this. An extract:

Remaining silent during a rape could be seen as consent, the country’s most senior prosecutor has suggested.

Alison Saunders, the Director of Public Prosecutions, said a suspect in such a case could have a “reasonable belief” that they had been given consent and so may not face prosecution.

Ms Saunders explained that the CPS should act as “a protection” for both sides in the wake of a rape allegation and ensure that suspects are not wrongly put on trial. [J4MB emphasis. Is Saunders announcing a policy about-turn?]…

“We are there not just to be able to prosecute cases where there has been an offence, but also not to prosecute cases where there isn’t sufficient evidence.” [J4MB emphasis: Mark Pearson? Kato Harris? Many others?]

She said the judgment in such cases was about “context” and insisted that despite recent criticisms, she understood the “devastating” impact rape allegations could have on the lives of innocent suspects. [J4MB emphasis: She “understood”, and revelled in the devastation of innocent men.]

“We have never done the extreme of if someone says they’ve been raped or just wants to shout rape then that’s enough,” she added.

A woman comments on a video of Laura Bates, she’s now in contention for our ‘Gormless Feminist of the Month’ award

In 2013, on International Women’s Day, Laura Bates was interviewed by Andrew Neil for The Daily Politicshere (video, 10:21). Dr Catherine Hakim was also on the programme, sadly wasting an opportunity to destroy Special Snowflake with rational arguments.

About three hours ago a woman posted the following comments on the video, putting her in contention for a Gormless Feminist of the Month award. Particularly gormless comments emphasised with bold text:

The fact that half of men also said they felt discriminated against is exactly the evidence for why feminism IS needed! Feminism deals with inequality against both men and women. There seems to be a lot of anger towards the movement which I struggle to understand. It fights for men and women to be able to lead the lives they want, free from discrimination. It’s a positive thing and is needed so that women can go on the tube without feeling afraid, men can be open with their emotions, women do not have to experience FGM, and so we generally recognise that society has constructed many of the differences we see between men and women that lead to discrimination. The comments seem to have a lot of hate for Laura Bates, who in my opinion is making completely valid points. Neither men or women in particular are to blame for this, it’s a societal problem so let’s fix it together.

We then had a brief exchange of comments:

ME: <Name redacted>, thanks for your comments. I’d like to post them on our blog http://atomic-temporary-215937230.wpcomstaging.com, may I use your real name? Anyone who looks at this comments stream will see it anyway. Thanks.

SHE: What will the comments be used for, just out of interest??

ME: For me to comment on.

SHE: Having just had a look at your blog, I don’t feel comfortable with you doing that so no I’d rather you didn’t, sorry!

Well, I wouldn’t want to be the cause of a woman feeling uncomfortable, would I?

Kato Harris, a teacher falsely accused of rape, tells Julia Hartley-Brewer that Alison Saunders, the head of the CPS, “is either knowingly incompetent or knowingly corrupt” after 13 rape cases collapsed in a year, and must resign

Last summer we reported on the case of Kato Harris, a highly-regarded Geography teacher whose life was torn apart following false rape allegations from a 14-year-old female pupil. He no longer teaches, and strongly recommends to men that they do not enter the teaching profession. One of our many pieces on his case is here.

Our thanks to Simon for this (video, 11:02). Always good to see the estimable Julia Hartley-Brewer taking an interest in men’s issues.

Jordan Peterson comments on the “threats” to Cathy Newman

Our thanks to HEqual for pointing us to a piece on INFOWARS (Paul Joseph Watson, editor). It includes a video (4:55), you’ll need to scroll down and click on the second video link, after the following paragraph:

Peterson himself responded to the controversy in a video posted earlier today, pointing out that there was no evidence of a widespread violent hate campaign targeting Newman and that this appeared to be a contrived excuse to distract from the fact that she got trounced in the debate.
