William Collins: “Rape – Part 2 (Case Histories of False Allegations)”

Just published. William starts the piece with a quotation from solicitor Matthew Graham, from last Wednesday:

This isn’t a story of a few rogue cops gone bad, or a crumbling, underfunded criminal justice system overwhelmed by national austerity (though both get blamed daily in courts and the press to cover a wider, more difficult truth).  This is a story of a state funded system designed with political ends in mind to convict those accused of crime, because once a person is charged they must be guilty, if only the Crown can prove it.

  1. “This is a story of a state funded system designed with political ends in mind ” And thus far it is that same system that is “reviewing” cases. This is a big claim and one dangerous to more than Ms. Saunders. All main Political Parties have supported the political aim of more convictions for sexual crimes and for Domestic Abuse , the two areas of the most egregious failures. The CPS and various Police bodies have all adopted a “gendered” approach and invested heavily in persuading their workforces to act on it.
This opening of the Pandora’s box is more than welcome, its almost miraculous. But it is open just a bit and if what the great and good start to see frightens them, the lid might yet be shut. All of us need to keep the pressure on to make Pandora’s box continue to reveal the horror of a legal system “systematic” in its incarceration and destruction of innocent men.
