When SPL first was proposed, back in 2011 the Department of Business Innovation and Skills estimated the take up would be less than 4%.
That figure has been proved an over-estimate; SPL is only taken if the woman is the significantly higher earner or the man wants to do something alongside the childcare, in which case the child is usually cared for by someone else anyway!
The problem for BIS at the time was they were basing their projections on the numbers taking the two weeks ordinary paternity leave – but because it was unpaid, many of those taking time off took annual leave because it was paid so didn’t feature in their calculations.
Men are simply not biologically hard wired to look after babies and I suspect the reality is that many would secretly far rather work three jobs to support their wives than give hands on care to a young child
I’ve always thought babies identify with their mothers first, with the role of the father increasing in importance as the child grows older and becomes less dependent on its primary carer (usually, though not always, its mum).
Although an absolutely horrible person, she does at least posses a little more self-awareness than many man-hating feminists. I wonder if she’ll also eventually come to realise it’s a massive breach of the BBC Charter for someone such as her to endlessly smear, insult and campaign against Philip Davies?
