Our thanks to James for this. An extract:
The saga began in 2012 after her former boyfriend, Humberto Dantas dos Santos, who was also known as Beto Rocha, was banned from serving as mayor of the town in 2012 due to corruption allegations.
Shortly afterwards, Leite ran in his place and appointed the 44-year-old as her chief advisor. He was responsible for most of the town’s day-to-day management.
Meanwhile Leite lived a lifestyle full of expensive champagne and fast cars in Sao Luiz as she communicated with her deputies via a special “Task Force” WhatsApp group.

At least in Brazil they haven’t forgotten how to sentence women.
Another Imelda Marcos…

How refreshing to see that there is no ‘pussy pass’ in the home of the ‘Brazillian’, or at least not a pussy passe par tout.

Indeed; in this country she would presumably explain to the judge that she was in an emotionally abusive relationship with a controlling man, and could she please serve her community sentence near a convenient shopping mall.
Exaggeration? Perhaps, but not by much. These were actual headlines regarding some truly awful women (including one who once beat a young fashion model with an electric cable in South Africa, and then claimed diplomatic immunity so she could leave the country):
Shoes, furs and hypocrisy: Why we love to hate despots’ wives: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-42108646
Contains the immortal line “It’s easy to condemn the wives of autocrats – but why do we expect more of them than their husbands?”, because Imelda Marcos was just a wilting wallflower, draped helplessly on the arm of her brutal despot husband (why is it whenever feminists talk like this I’m reminded of a typical Mills & Boone plot?).
And no rant would be complete without some shite from a Guardian writer: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/nov/23/robert-mugabe-grace-lightning-rod-zimbabwe-madame-mao
From the article itself: “Jiang was regarded – accurately – as volatile, vicious and vindictive. She caused countless deaths.”
But we should feel sorry for her, because vagina. Luckily Brazilians are not yet this brainwashed (one thinks of the preventable deaths that occur in towns and countries like this, where money for police, hospitals, fire services etc etc gets spent on shoes).
