  1. Its interesting isn’t it. I note the report says that no body is mad about it as she was also part of a team. so another faux “outrage”. To me non of this need be any problem at all if there was some sense applied. So there may well be many sports where , especially before puberty, girls and boys can have a go together. Even after puberty there may be sports where equipment etc. means the evident physical differences aren’t an issue. I used to do a martial art which included boys and girls and men and women. there’d be mixed training and low impact sparring but competition fights were sex segregated. One tended to find that females tended to tail off dramatically as the age increased as females just simply aren’t as motivated by sporting competition. So it seemed simply good manners to include the few adult females as much as possible, without doing something as obviously dangerous as have mixed “fights”.
The problems occur with the gender warriors. Particularly nasty being the inference that young boys are somehow a sexual danger to Girls, Silly in demanding equality while insisting on compensatory rules to “even things up” and unrealistic in that the truth is relatively few females choose to participate in competitive sport so in most cases there will be many fewer women involved both as participants and spectators.
One of the most ridiculous things is the constant exhortation to support women’s rugby or football through media etc. when all indications are after decades that few women want to play or spectate and the main audience of males prefer to watch men compete. It seems to be somehow “compulsory” for the audience for men’s football to be interested in women’s football because women aren’t.
Seeing as we are all exhorted to be more active the best plan would seem to me to go with how people want to do this. The gist of this story appeared to be the “rule” was not some evil plot so much as it hadn’t cropped up before.

  2. Interesting. It doesn’t say, but I assume that they all played off the competition tees? Women can compete pretty well at golf, as I know to my cost. The difference comes at the highest level where the top men just hit it miles.

  3. Equestrian sports are the only ones where women compete with men equally across the sport. I don’t see why this should be. I would love women to be allowed to race in the Tour de France (oh, wait, there is nothing in the rules stopping them) or in yacht races (oh wait, women are allowed in men’s teams but not vice-versa) or even tiddlywinks where surely women don’t need a team of their own!

But like feminists say, “a woman can do everything a man can.” Except, it seems, when it comes to competing under equal rules.

I’m not even a mosogynist yet this constant harking on is making me see women as puny and incompetent. That’s the effects of feminism for you!
