Jacob Rees-Mogg refuses to adopt feminist label, saying it would be ‘ridiculous’

Our thanks to Gary for this. Some of the content is too depressing for words. The emphases in these extracts are ours:

The Tory MP was asked whether he was a feminist during a discussion at the Cheltenham Literature Festival.

He responded by saying that he is able to say he supports feminists but believes women should be the ones to decide whether somebody is actually feminist…

I can say I support feminists. But I think for me to say I am a feminist is claiming for myself that, as Jess Phillips says, is probably for her to decide.”

The Tory backbencher also admitted he would receive far more abuse if he were to be female.

He added: “This is something we should take really seriously. The abuse of women online for sharing their views is a disgrace.”…

In a display of cross-party friendship, Mr Rees-Mogg also asked the audience to applaud Ms Phillips’ father for bringing up such a “splendid” daughter.

The Mogg has lost our vote. White male Tory MPs were the most abused MPs on social media before the last general election.

    • I certainly hope so. If not, he was my only hope for next PM (although we might just get Sargon or Milo in No.10!).
We need more people like Jacob. Unfailingly polite, but candid and not cowering in fear of the “liberal” left.

      • Yes I suspect he was neatly sidestepping a “bullet” for it is almost illegal in public life not to be a “feminist” yet the Mogg deftly stepped past that one and then praised a father!
Had he uttered that he was a “feminist” no doubt he’d have got entangled in discussion of abortion etc. as feminists attacked him for not believing the feminist holy catechism.

  2. I had high hopes for JRM.

Now he’s gone an blown HimselF out of the water with bizzare nonsense like this.

    Pity.

The Tories are DesperatelY short of talent at the moment.
Witness the way Prime Minister May is having her face rubbed in the do-do by the e.u., and their blatant and cynical delaying tactics.

If we rule out Marxoid ambition – just for the sake of argument say – that leaves us with Stupidity, Ignorance, Electioneering, Gulibility, ‘Dis-understanding’, Gynocentric Chivalry, Mistake or even Malice.

I’m inclined to go with the Gynocentrism myself.

  3. Mr Rees-Mogg is a decent man, but like most MPs he is subject to the pressures and influence of feminism and, like them, he is unprepared to counter their victimhood tactics and man-hating ideology, being insufficiently educated in the subject, and so he needs to have a conversation with Phillip Davies MP and Mr William Collins, among others.
