Firstly, a hearty congratulations for all the great work you and your associates are doing for men and for boys. We need you more than ever!

Secondly, it occurred to me that the tampon tax is not being spent in the right way. [J4MB: Proceeds are being handed to women’s charities, mainly in the DV refuge industry.]

I used to work in the Water Industry, and my daily commute was to Anglian Water’s Cambridge Sewer Treatment works.

Each week, around a ton of solid, non-biodegradable waste was extracted from the raw sewage that was pumped away from Cambridge homes. A large proportion of that was tampons, tampon applicators, sanitary pads, nappies and baby wipes.

A ton.

It would seem to me that a serious rebuttal to the “Tampon Tax debate” is one that highlights this issue (without explicitly pointing out how stupid and environmentally damaging women’s actions are). All funds collected from taxing women’s sanitary products should go to their local sewage treatment works, to cover the cost of handling and disposing of the waste, along with re-education projects for women.

To be absolutely fair, among the waste, condoms are also found, so if someone ever brings it up, be ready to offer a conciliatory point on VAT on condoms.
