Michelle Kershaw, 45, social worker, quit job to become escort, stole from disabled client after he went into hospital. Why is she not in prison today?

Our thanks to Nick for this. Excerpts:

In mitigation, Kerhsaw’s lawyer Liz Ridgeway said: “This is an extremely difficult set of circumstances, especially as this is the first time the defendant has been before the court before…

“She knows this conviction could potentially stop her from getting another job in the social care industry. She is an honest woman [J4MB: Our emphasis] and feels deep shame and remorse…

Sentencing Kershaw, JP Susan Craig told her: “We do feel for your situation but that doesn’t take away from the offence you have committed. This could have been a very different ending and you could have ended up in custody. But neither of us want that. [J4MB: Since when did what criminals ‘want’ have a bearing on their sentencing? And WHY doesn’t Ms Craig ‘want’ to send her to prison? Because vagina, presumably.

Centre for Criminal Appeals, a charity, is seeking a Women’s Justice Advocate

Our thanks to Jake for this. An extract:

The Centre for Criminal Appeals is committed to promoting equality, diversity and to providing an inclusive and supportive environment and we seek people who share these values.

On the site’s home page:

The problem
– Innocent people in prison for crimes they didn’t commit
– Women unfairly imprisoned for minor, non-violent offences
– Lack of transparency stopping our justice system being held to account

The charity has a Women’s Justice Initiative. It hardly needs pointing out there is no Men’s Justice Initiative. Well, fair enough, only 95% of prisoners in the UK are men.

Labour MP Darren Jones apologises after appointment to all male science select committee

A pathetic piece in inews (‘i’), inevitably written by a teenage girl. I imagine she’s cheaper to employ than a proper journalist. Excerpts:

Darren Jones announced his appointment to the Science and Technology Select Committee on Twitter, adding: “[I’m] also a bit embarrassed and apologise that it’s entirely men.”… [J4MB: Darren, strap on a pair, for goodness sake…]

MPs are appointed to select committees by nominating themselves and then being voted in. Select committees are cross-party and are used to check on the Government’s work and hold departments to account. Mr Jones told i no women from any party had put their names forward for the select committee… [J4MB: Our emphasis. Hmm, might THAT explain the absence of women on the committee? Just crazy speculation…]

Sophie Walker, leader of the Women’s Equality Party said Mr Jones is right to be embarrassed by the line-up of the Commons’ Science and Technology committee. Ms Walker told i:“Appointing women to the Science and Technology committee is a key part of the process of dismantling the ingrained sexism and segregation that posits STEM as a subject for boys and men: this starts in schools and continues across working life, as well as into politics.”

Khur’aan Sunnath Society, Malaysian Muslim organization: ‘Male circumcision unscientific, primitive form of forced religious conversion’

Interesting. Dr M Abdul Jaleel Puttekkadu is the vice-president of the Khur’aan Sunnath Society, and he’s quoted in the article:

The basis of this practice is a fake Hadith that the Prophet had undergone circumcision. There is, however, no proof in the actual Hadith that it was performed on him or his descendants.

The Muslim case against circumcision is well explained here.
