  1. It also says mothers are more likely to be in work than child free women.
The bottom line is the triple level positive discrimination mothers can claim – gender, pregnancy and maternity and then part time status all of which means, taken together, that they are virtually irremoveable.
Only a 50 plus woman dares take them on, whether in terms of a grievance or disciplinary action.

  3. Such absurd figures testify to the fact that there is something fundamentally wrong with our society. Any company would rather hire a single man than a mother or even a woman, should free selection be available to it. Asian companies can still do it, and it comes as no surprise we suffer chronic trade deficits with them. Under the burden of feminist philosophy, our companies are slowly sinking. Obviously, this insane situation can only last so long, until we are completely bankrupt and 2+2 will begin to equal 4 again. Pity we can’t say this openly and reverse this insane trend before it’s too late.

  4. Colossally expensive housing costs in rent/mortgage as well as rising costs and plateaued wages for men in particular is all a big push to twin earner households. No surprise that men and women with no children equally employed. Of course this is simply reinforced by derisory tax relief for married couples and free childcare etc. Net result is what people have to do not what they necessarily want to. As is so often shown in surveys women are not happy about the “deal” and of course each time this comes out feminists say women need “educating” in the correct attitudes.

  5. “It shows 73.7 per cent of women with dependent children are now in work, compared to 73.5 per cent of childless men.
Fathers have the highest overall employment rates, with more than 90 per cent holding down a job. Childless women have the lowest, as less than 70 per cent are in work.”
So people with children are the people “in work” . Could it possibly be because with no real concessions parents male or female have to work ? Is it a peculiarly british thing; to ignore the reality of money and earning. While my children were infants and “juniors” I had two jobs. This wasn’t some desire or ideological thing or even commitment to career. It was because with my wife looking after the lovely ones we needed the money. I’m not special; for with the birth of children men’s “work centredness” moves up a few notches as they seek promotions, overtime, or second jobs to support their growing family.
All these “debates” appear to assume there is loads of “choice”. As if people made different “choices” it would be just fine, presumably because the trust fund, daddy, New Labour, the money fairy , would step in if the people decided to holiday in Benidorm for the rest of their lives. Doesn’t it occur that the basic premise is that you are paid to do things you wouldn’t do just for the hell of it.
