Owen Jones’s claim that Labour halved Philip Davies’ majority in the recent General Election overlooks two important points, namely (1) that Labour’s gains in Shipley were from smaller parties, not from Mr Davies, and (2) that Mr Davies actually increased his share of the total vote from 50% in 2015 to 51.3% in 2017.
This very welcome result indicates that attempting to smear Mr Davies as a misogynist, etc., doesn’t work, at least with the people who know him best and who matter most in this instance, i.e. his constituents.
