  1. In law he was right. Positive discrimination can legally only be used as a tie breaker
    when everything else is equal. It cannot be used to give preferential treatment to lesser qualified wimmin and minority candidates, as it so often is. It ends with performance indicators being kept artificially low and the poorest performers, if female or another minority, getting preferential retention.

    • Thanks Elizabeth. I must have recruited hundreds of people in my business career, and was never faced with a situation where there wasn’t a clearly best candidate (if only marginally). And of course in many areas e.g. the public sector women are already in the majority. Never heard of men using the ‘positive action’ clauses in the Equality Act 2010 for self-advancement.

      • If you are using public sector recruitment techniques, which are designed to strip out experience and other soft skills, then you can get two candidates scoring the same number of points. In which case you are saddled with the woman/minority person; the fact someone else might be a better fit is irrelevant.

      • In Australia it was demonstrated that women are twice as likely to be promoted in public services than a man. The finding “surprised” the researchers as they set out to prove the opposite. I cannot imagine any different result in the UK

  2. I’ve seen little, if any, comment on the glaring contradiction that if men are so bad why do women so badly want to be more like them?

    I offer the answer that in cases of non-political complaints the driving factors are;
    Envy.
    Jealousy.
    Resentment.

    Although we human ape creatures can have have susbtantial rationality under some circumstances, we remain principally motivated by emotions (notice the similarity between the last two words).

    The situations we find ourselves in Now are always a result of The Past, which itself is always a result of biology.
    Any person, or group of persons denying this are untimately onto a loser.
    Though that won’t stop them trying of course…
