Indignant mother hits out at the female teachers favouring girls over boys with ‘lifelong’ consequences

Our thanks to Jeff for this. An extract:

The education system, just like society at large, is loaded against boys and in favour of girls.

From teachers favouring girls when children raise their hands in class to suggesting that any boy who exhibits curiosity or sensitivity must have something wrong with him, boys are demeaned from the moment they put on their uniforms and enter the school gates.

Little wonder that the attainment gap between boys and girls has become a chasm. A girl born today is 75 per cent more likely than a boy to proceed to higher education, while young men enter the adult world more unsure of themselves than ever.

  1. Quote;

    “while young men enter the adult world more unsure of themselves than ever.”

    That’s the whole object of the exercise.

  2. As has been covered on this site https://j4mbdotorgdotuk.wpcomstaging.com/2015/03/08/teachers-give-higher-marks-to-girls/ There are a growing number of national and international studies that Girls get higher marks in exams and teacher assessment than “blind marking” This is proving to be “inflation” rather than marking boys down. There is also the same greater overestimating of Grades for Girls “target” compared to their actual achievement at exam. Overall the picture is that Girls are more favoured rather than boys marked down. Perhaps simply the educational counterpart to the extravagant praise women require when just doing their job and so on.
    It is also sobering that male teachers are as likely to do the same, so at least for marks and expectations. More male teachers may not make the difference. Though I suspect it would make difference in responding to the high energy levels of boys .
    It also shows this mother’s impressions are supported by hard evidence that the teaching profession should be taking seriously as it amounts to systematic sexism.
