While we were all disappointed that Jess Phillips was re-elected in the general election, there was some good news beyond Sophie ‘Doughnuts’ Walker (WEP) losing her deposit in Shipley.
Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh, the SNP member for Ochil and South Perthshire, made enough absurd comments during her speech in the course of Philip Davies’s debate on International Men’s Day, that we presented her with that month’s Toxic Feminist of the Month award. So I was delighted to learn she’d lost her seat in the general election, to one of 12 new Conservative MPs in Scotland.

Justice for Men & Boys 
As I recall the very special law to suspend the Equality Act to allow for direct discrimination in selection of political candidates has to be periodically renewed. As the leaders of three of the UK Gov. are women and 4 of the Parties in the UK Parliament are led by women ( including the two “governing” parties) I can’t see there could be any argument for a further suspension of Equality rights.
The Law was brought in following a successful challenge by a male Labour candidate arguing that it was Direct Discrimination on the basis of sex which is illegal in the UK.

There never WAS any case for suspending those rights. Women have always been far more highly represented as MPs (now 30%) than applying to be PPCs (10%, last time I checked). It will be renewed until 50% of MPs are female, then 50% of cabinet ministers… this is a train that only ever goes one way, and will never stop, until a concrete block is laid on the track.

One of the most vile MPs. I’m actually rather happy with the results overall. Salmond sacked. Angus Robertson sacked. Cleggie sacked. Ahmed-Sheikh sacked. DUP being part of the government.
Just sending you that fiver I promised you, Mike. I didn’t vote in the end as I just couldn’t bring myself to vote for “the lesser of 4 evils”. I’m in the other Perth constituency and the SNP incumbent, Wishart, managed to scrape in with 21 more votes than the Tories. So it would have been 20 if I’d voted. But I couldn’t for the life of me see any major differences between the Tory and the Scot Nat in terms of policies, other than the independence issue.
