    Because it’s all about her.

    That aside, I hope he challenges the dismissal on the grounds that what is and is not offensive is subjective, although I don’t imagine for a second that he has a chance of winning.

    Writing offensive remarks on a mug was a childish thing to do and was bound to bring trouble in this hypersensitised age.

      It’s called banter and is what gets many people through unrewarding low paid jobs all round the world. We shouldn’t be blaming the victims of this insanity. It’s at the stage now where white men (it’s always white men) are taking a huge risk just by engaging in normal everyday behaviour, as North Yorkshire police have recently made clear with their clampdown on ‘misogyny’.

      This decision highlights the relativistic nature of ‘progressivism’. If a woman ‘feels’ offended then she’s a victim. Intent doesn’t matter. Context doesn’t matter. It’s all about those feelz.

      Things like this just keep proving to me that I’m better off staying on benefits than subjecting myself to the modern workplace. I’ve been through similar stuff relating to typical female behaviour in the past, and it’s not worth the hassle for whatever minimum wage is nowadays. I remember I got a formal verbal warning when I stacked shelves at a supermarket because I refused to put on a company fleece when told to by a teenaged female ‘supervisor’ (translation: stand about doing nothing but get paid 50p more than the workers). Here’s the context. It was summer and I was sweating due to the heat. I was in casual clothes because I worked nightshift but had come in 6 hours early as a favour to the grocery manager as there were staff shortages. I wasn’t getting paid for those 6 hours and must have been mad to do it. Maybe I had the naive old-fashioned idea that hard graft and going the extra mile might lead to career progression. What a fool I was. I got accused of ignoring orders because it was a girl, that I was ‘looking down on her’. And this was true because she FELT it. Nothing to do with not wanting to cook myself.

        Whatever it’s called, it’s still childish and self-destructive, and while one can walk through the jungle without a pith helmet on, if one chooses, one cannot do so in the expectation of not being rained on by the monkeys in the trees when they decide to urinate on one. Reminding people of that is no more ‘victim blaming’ than advising young women not to get drunk and engage in sex with men they’ve only just met.

        If he’s childish, anyone who tells a joke is childish. Women who get drunk and have sex aren’t victims though. He is a victim as he’s lost his job because Mary Lennox from The Secret Garden threw a tantrum. She is the childish person in this affair. The business and the state, instead of telling her she’s a spoiled brat, are indulging her fantasies and punishing an innocent bystander. They lost a loyal and hardworking worker because they couldn’t say no to a highly irrational woman who was probably only in her position due to her sex. The company deserves to go under, and I hope they do.

    I noted the rather sympathetic remarks from the tribunal. In such case the “fairness” test is if the dismissal was in accord with the company’s policy. As it was “zero tolerance” policy its easy to see the employer had all the cards stacked in its favour had it wanted to get rid of a problem. Of course this clearly puts “patriarchy” to bed; as in this instance the discomfort of a well paid female business consultant clearly counted for a whole lot more than a male factory hand. I don’t suppose there would have been any difference 100 years ago had a “lady” been upset by a pleb. “Male privilege” my a….e

      The comfort and convenience of any woman, however lowly and useless, comes before that of any man at the bottom of the food chain, however useful and factory workers are well below the threshold of consideration. I know, I’ve been one, several times.
