Miss McCullough – who was born in Italy and was representing Washington DC – was also asked if she considered herself to be a feminist but said she preferred the term “equalism” and said men and women had equal opportunity in US workplaces.
“I don’t really want to consider myself – try not to consider myself like this die-hard, you know, like, ‘Oh, I don’t really care about men’,” said the contestant, who says she wants to see more women employed in government science roles.
So she says men and women have ‘equal opportunity in US workplaces’, but wants ‘more women [i.e. fewer men] employed in government science roles’. That makes sense.

Still, a relatively intelligent response from a beauty contestant. I remember, some years ago, one such contestant being asked if she had an ambition. And, when she said she did, and was asked what it was, replied: “I want to own a red sports car”.

This may be a very unpopular thing to say, but our maximum investment should be in the 1/7 women and the 4/7 men. The problem is identifying them; I’d say one question would do it.
For the women, “Do you want children?” And for the men, “Would you want to be a full time carer for a child under a year old?” The “Noes” are the ones you are looking for.
For me, any job application with a mention of “work/life balance” goes into the bin – priorities elsewhere.
