Esquire: Sophie Walker, Women’s Equality Party leader, to challenge “Meninist” MP Philip Davies in upcoming election

An embarrassing short piece in Esquire, a men’s magazine which should be better informed. One paragraph starts as a punctuation free zone:

Davies a self-proclaimed ‘meninist’ commented…

The idea that Davies would ever term himself a ‘meninist’ is laughable, indeed he doesn’t even term himself a men’s rights advocate, as we know from a recent New Statesman interview. I know of no MRAs of any standing who term themselves ‘meninists’.

The ‘History’ section in the Wikipedia entry on menimism consists of the following:

The term meninism was used in the early 2000s to describe male feminists who opposed sexism and supported women’s right for equality in society, politics and at work.[1][2][3]

By the next decade, the term was used on social media to make jokes which mocked and criticised radical feminism.[4][5]

In 2013 the BBC reported that the hashtag #MeninistTwitter was being used on Twitter, first to share jokes about feminism, but later to share more serious difficulties facing modern men.[4]

In 2015, Nolan Feeney of Time reported that those who used meninist hashtags “generally fall in two camps: people who use the term to call out ways they believe they’ve been victimised by feminism, and people who make fun of the first group for not understanding what feminism means in the first place”.[6]

Well, that’s cleared up the confusion, I think we can all agree.

A suggestion from a major donor

Before the 2015 general election the BBC held radio hustings in both the constituencies in which J4MB was fielding candidates – Ashfield (myself) and Broxtowe (Ray Barry). Ray wasn’t invited to his hustings, and only learned of them the next day. I was invited to the hustings in Ashfield, where I was challenging Gloria De Piero, the shadow Minister for Women & Equalities. The audio file (55:39) of the hustings is here.

The BBC’s invited audience was 100% female, and questions were asked about women’s issues, not men’s issues, so I hijacked the situation as best I could, and forced men’s issues in there. If memory serves me right, my first statement was redolent with my anger at what the BBC had done, on this occasion, and on others. The young feminist presenter, however, was holding a style of microphone which ensured my voice was inaudible when she pulled it only a foot or two away from me.

So you can imagine my delight when one of our major donors sent me this a few minutes ago:

Hi Mike

I note Sophie Walker is running against Philip Davies in Shipley. This would seem to present an opportunity.

As you will recall, during the 2015 general election campaign in Ashfield, the BBC invited the leader of a small party campaigning for men’s rights to a debate with one of Britain’s most prominent feminist politicians. The debate did not discuss men’s issues at all. The BBC vetted all questions in advance to ensure that only women’s issues were discussed. The debate was chaired by a feminist, and the audience consisted entirely of women.

In the interests of balance, during the 2017 general election campaign in Shipley, the BBC should now invite the leader of a small party campaigning for women’s rights to a debate with one of Britain’s most prominent MRA politicians. The debate should not discuss women’s issues at all. The BBC should vet all questions in advance to ensure only men’s issues are discussed. The debate should be chaired by a men’s rights activist and the audience should consist entirely of men.

Perhaps yourself or Mr. Davies could put this to the BBC the next time you speak to them?

Thanks,

Greg

Philip Davies MP and Sophie Walker on this morning’s BBC ‘Today’ programme

Our thanks to William, Paul, and others, for pointing us to this on iPlayer, you’ll need to confirm you have a BBC licence to listen to it. The piece is from 1:23:23 – 1:30:18. Nick Robinson, the presenter, allowed Walker to talk at considerable length at the start, and was noticeably more antagonistic towards Davies than Walker. A typical BBC interview, then. The piece will remain on iPlayer for 29 days, we’ll load it onto our YouTube website shortly.

Battle of the Sexes: Tory MP who sparked anger when he called for an international men’s day is being challenged in the election by a women’s equality campaigner

A piece in the Mail. The woeful ignorance of the (female) journalist is evident from the first sentence:

A controversial Tory MP who was slammed by feminists when he called for an ‘international men’s day’ faces an election battle with a leading women’s equality campaigner.

International Men’s Day was inaugurated in 1992 – 25 years ago. A Wikipedia search would have told Kate Ferguson, ‘political correspondent’, that.

Philip Davies hits back at Women’s Equality Party: Sophie Walker is the politically correct sexist, not me

Our thanks to Stu for this. Extracts:

Mr Davies won the Shipley seat with a majority of 9,624 at the last election, with 50 per cent of the vote. Labour took 31 per cent and Ukip came in third with 8.9 per cent. The Greens were in fourth place with 5.3 per cent. However the Guardian suggests other parties, such as the Greens, may stand down at a local level to allow the WEP to win against Mr Davies… [And why would they do this? In an effort to get rid of the only MP (out of 650) who regularly talks on men’s issues.]

Ms Walker said at the time Philip Davies tried to block the women’s rights bill, known as the Istanbul Convention, that it was “deeply concerning that some MPs still consider women’s equality a threat to men”. [Can Walker be so stupid as not to realise Davies was pointing to women’s PRIVILEGE, not “women’s equality”?] Ms Walker added: “Male survivors need appropriate services to rebuild their lives, but that does not mean that men’s needs should be at the centre of services for women who have survived male violence. [Walker seems to have no problem with female-on-female violence. The highest rates of violence are found in lesbian couples.] Violence against women and girls is not gender neutral [What an asinine stupid statement. Does Walker manage to put on matching shoes in the morning?] – and as long as we fail to understand this we cannot hope to bring an end to it.”

Feminist manipulations of the J4MB Wikipedia entry

The Wikipedia entry on J4MB is here. It’s been going since August 2016, and is under constant assault from feminist ‘editors’ including ‘The Vintage Feminist’, who are keen on removing anything not to their liking – particularly if it’s demonstrably true – and doing whatever they can to undermine us, often though omission rather than commission. Happily, somewhere there’s a sympathetic Wiki editor who keep the occasional eye on the site, adding and amending as he (or she) sees fit.

It’s possible to review the revision history of Wiki entries, and the history for the J4MB website is here. Until a few days ago, the J4MB entry included the following:

Philip Davies MP, a member of the Justice Select Committee, spoke to the conference asserting that the criminal justice system favours women’s over men’s rights. Jenny Earle, director of Prison Reform Trust’s programme for reducing women’s imprisonment in response said, “The evidence is not that women are treated more leniently. In fact they are twice as likely as men to receive a custodial sentence for a first offence, and the main offence for which women are imprisoned is theft and shoplifting”.[11]

In response, Buchanan pointed to an analysis published in a blog by Men’s Rights Advocates in the UK. The blog extrapolates data regarding sentencing, prison population and parole figures to claim that there is a gender bias in favour of women.[12]

The second of these two paragraphs has been removed in the past few days, leading Jenny Earle’s outrageous lie unchallenged. Reference [12] led to a link to a William Collins blog piece, UK Prisoners – The Genders Compared, and this quote from him: “This leads me to the following staggering conclusion. Men are subject to massive gender discrimination in the criminal justice system. If male offenders were treated in the same way as female offenders there would be only one-sixth of the number of men in prison.”

General election: Sophie Walker, Women’s Equality party leader, will challenge ‘misogynist’ Philip Davies MP

Wonderful news. This will help raise public awareness of men’s issues, and starkly expose how idiotic the Women’s Equality Party is, along with its leader Sophie Walker, twice a winner of our Lying Feminist of the Month award, in common with Sandi Toxic, party spokeswoman. Extracts from the piece in The Guardian:

She is the leader of the Women’s Equality party (WEP), a new political force committed to furthering the cause of gender equality, but which has yet to make inroads electorally.

He is a Tory MP who tried to derail a bill to protect women against violence, and told a conference hosted by an anti-feminism party that “feminist zealots really do want women to have their cake and eat it”. [Details of our conference here.]…

Walker, a journalist who became the WEP’s inaugural leader in 2015 and has been at the forefront of its campaigns for equal representation and pay in working life, said: “Philip Davies basically is a sexist misogynist who puts his own ego ahead of his constituents. His anti-equality agenda in Westminster threatens the rights and freedoms not just of women but also people with disabilities, BAME (black, Asian, and minority ethnic) and LGBT+ communities. I think that Shipley deserves an MP who will prioritise representing them and the issues that are important to their constituency, rather than using parliament as a stage to play out attention-seeking performances.”

Davies said: “I have consistently asked Sophie Walker to quote just one thing I have ever said which has asked for a woman to be treated less favourably than a man, and she hasn’t been able to find even one quote from the 12 years I have spent in parliament.

“I would very much welcome Ms Walker parachuting herself into Shipley as a candidate with her extreme politically correct agenda of positive discrimination and quotas, and am very happy to let the good people of the Shipley constituency decide who they want to represent them.”

The fundraiser to finance videos of the presentations at the third International Conference on Men’s Issues (Australia)

Several tips of the hat to Geoff, Rod, and Jonathan, as well as others, for their recent generous donations towards this fundraiser. The total raised now stands at £1,000, halfway towards the £2,000 target. Yesterday I donated £20 from my own limited funds (not J4MB funds).

With seven weeks remaining before the next International Conference on Men’s Issues, in Australia, time is rapidly running out to fund flights and other costs of Anthony Corniche, the man who did such a great job filming and editing the talks at the London conference last July – here (scroll down to 8-10 July).

Anthony will be devoting an enormous amount of time and effort to the project – post-filming editing takes up far more time and effort than the filming itself – and if his fundraiser isn’t successful, there won’t be a video record of the conference presentations. Anthony recently posted this on the website:

Everyone who has and will donate is going to get a credit on the videos when released.

The bigger the donation the bigger the credit text.

I will contact donors when in editing process around the end of June or early July.

If the fundraiser meets its target, the videos will be made available to view at no cost, on the J4MB and AVfM websites.

Please donate what you can, to help make this important project a reality. Thanks.
