Feminism: The Ugly Truth (revised ebook edition)

A little more than five years have passed since I published the first edition of Feminism: The Ugly Truth, in an ebook edition. It’s available to order for all ebook readers, and the Kindle edition is here.

I’m working on a revised edition of the ebook, updating the content of the paperback edition (2016) which is available to buy from Amazon here. The new ebook edition should be available at some point next month.

I’ve written ten books since 2008, all shown on my Amazon profile page. To be fair, I had some valuable input from colleagues to the most recent ‘book’, the 80-page-long 2015 general election manifesto. The Kindle edition costs £4.99, alternatively you can download the PDF for free (for now, at least) here.

Shortly before the International Conference on Men’s Issues which we hosted in July last year, my modest commercial concern LPS publishing published Herbert Purdy’s excellent book Their Angry Creed: The shocking history of feminism, and how it is destroying our way of life. It’s available to order from his website and from major online retailers, and in common with all my ebooks, it’s available to order for all ebook readers. On Amazon you can order both the paperback edition and the Kindle edition.

How Victoria Gayle hid her dead son for over a decade

Our thanks to Stu for this. Excerpts:

When Kyzer Gayle died in 2005 he was little over a year old. But it would be 10 years before the authorities knew about his death and longer still before they discovered what had happened to the boy from north London…

During contact with Gayle, some official agencies did ask about her son’s whereabouts. She told them the boy’s father was a member of the traveller community and had taken responsibility for Kyzer at a young age. The claim appears to have been accepted and no-one ever sought out the boy…

At Kingston Crown Court last December, Victoria Gayle pleaded guilty to preventing Kyzer’s lawful burial. She denied charges of perjury and perverting the course of justice, which have been left to lie on file [Why?]. She has been sentenced to 21 months in prison with the judge criticising Gayle’s “web of lies” and saying the the full truth of her son’s “sad and short life” will never be known…

Jon Brown, from children’s charity the NSPCC, says he finds it “deeply disturbing” that a child can “go missing for a decade”. He told the BBC there were “a number of significant and important questions that are going to need to be addressed by the serious case review and by the IPCC investigation”.

Pen Mehmet, Gayle’s former neighbour, agrees and says she is angry and bewildered that Kyzer’s death could go unnoticed for so long. “I think it’s absolutely disgusting because this child’s been missing and nobody knew.

“How can nobody know? I don’t understand, how can nobody know?”

Oh, Canada! Ontario court finds lying about taking the pill is A-okay.

A tip of the hat to Toy Soldier for this.

This form of paternity fraud is very common, and some have suggested more than 50% of conceptions result from women frustrating contraceptive methods, or lying about using them, as in this case.

Another form of paternity fraud, allowing or encouraging a man to assume or believe he’s the father of a child when he’s not, is a crime under the Fraud Act 2006. The Crown has never prosecuted a woman for this form of paternity fraud (or the other form, above) and only a few private prosecutions brought by men – on the grounds of emotional distress – have been successful. The amount of financial contributions a man has made towards his wife, and the children who aren’t biologically his, cannot be taken into account, and settlements are rarely over £20,000.

We covered the issue of paternity fraud in our 2015 general election manifesto (pp.52-4).

BBC: Suicide risk greatest for low skilled male workers

Our thanks to Keith for this. The headline (above) is encouraging, especially for the BBC, but because it’s the BBC, even in the area of suicide (78% of victims are men) there needs to be some obfuscation. The start of the piece:

Men working in the lowest-skilled occupations and women health professionals are at the highest risk of suicide, according to new research.

Figures also show construction workers killed themselves at a rate three times higher than the male average.

For women, people in culture, media and sport had a rate 69% higher than the female average.

Many people don’t go beyond the first few lines of media reports. So they’d miss what follows. Another excerpt:

The raw numbers showed 1,047 male suicides were of people in the construction or building trade.

Cynically, the report writer has excluded the categories ‘elementary construction’ (c. 380 male suicides) and ‘building finishing (c. 350 male suicides). The total number of suicides among men in the construction or building trade is therefore around 1,777. This excludes the ‘electrician’ category, although a substantial poportion of electricians work in the construction or building trade.

The 1,777 male suicides can be compared with the profession with the most female suicides, caring – 273 suicides over the same period.

Israel: a victory for men’s rights

Our thanks to Geoff for this. The start of the piece:

A 12-year-long battle by activists for men’s rights and family values was capped with success Wednesday, when the Justice Ministry published a revised version of its infamous Prosecution Instruction 2.5, which effectively gave women a free pass to file false charges of violence and sexual abuse against men.

The instruction was initially formulated by then-State Attorney Dorit Beinisch, and was modified by her successor, Edna Arbel, in the early 2000s. Its somewhat elaborate title is: “Policy regarding launching investigation and filing charges on suspicion of giving false or contradictory statements or testimony during an investigation or trial, and for refusal to testify.”

The problematic nature of the instruction was exposed in a journalistic article in 2004 which gained widespread attention and, over the years, the Israeli juristic world has come to see it as allowing women’s perjury against men to go unpunished.

The end of the piece:

This last clause is especially meaningful for men in divorce battles, who are arrested and distanced from their homes and children as a matter of course through the tactical use of false accusations.

Some men’s activists took to calling the instruction, in its previous form, the Wife of Potiphar Clause, after the famous Biblical Egyptian noblewoman who caused Joseph the Righteous to go to jail by falsely accusing him of attempted rape.

Israel has been rocked for many years by scandals involving women’s accusations against men in positions of power. It remains to be seen what effect, if any, the new instruction will have on this dynamic.

Dr Vasudha Mashankar acted ‘dishonestly’, struck off for failures in treatment of young boy who later died

Our thanks to Stu for this. Excerpts:

A doctor has been described as acting ‘dishonestly’ and struck off for failures in the treatment of a seriously ill young patient who later died.

A hearing before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service was told how Dr Vasudha Mashankar failed to treat the patient in March 2015 and compounded the problem by fabricating medical records to protect herself from criticism.

The patient, who has not been named, was originally treated at University Hospital of North Tees before being transferred to Newcastle where he later died.

The doctor, who was not present during the hearing in Manchester, [my emphasis] was struck off the medical register after the tribunal found she had acted dishonestly.

The tribunal heard how the doctor had failed to assess the patient properly and had ignored a nurse’s plea to take a closer look at the ill child…

Evidence before the hearing showed that the doctor also falsified evidence and failed to communicate information to the child’s mother…

After being transferred to Newcastle, a scan showed the young patient has suffered an intracranial bleed and died as a result.

In a statement submitted to the hearing, Dr Mashankar apologised to the family but offered no evidence to explain the false entry in the patient’s notes. [my emphasis]

She wrote: “I have been extremely distressed by the incident and I am extremely sorry for what has happened. I am anguished by the irreparable loss to the family especially the parents. I have reflected on the unfortunate incident. It was an extremely busy night on March 27 when I started my shift and I had to look after the patients who had not been seen earlier.”
