This is an interesting case. Clearly “ancillary relief” wherein courts decide on doling out the money to the ex wife is a huge injustice. But what of divorce law? This is a reminder that we don’t have in England “no fault” divorce. Now in my experience this means there’s often a form of collusive perjury in which counsel set up a fabricated “fault”. And also in my experience this means the “gentlemanly” thing to do is take the “fault”. Both the law and this case seem to me to encourage wives to exaggerate or fabricate further to achieve the desired divorce, and blacken their husband in the process.
However I don’t have wide experience. Would “no fault” divorce be better for men or not?

You raise an interesting point. Three-quarters of divorce applications are filed by women, and in my experience too, in most divorces husbands accept the ‘fault’, even when it is they who have first stated their wish to divorce.

Yes I wondered if there was to be a change to bring in “no fault” divorce what would be the men’s rights perspective? As I said in the English context it would appear to be better for men than the current situation which if nothing else encourages exaggeration/lying. But I’m no expert.
As so often in the past, a case like this one, a woman not getting her way(I see no commentator appears in the least bothered about by the elderly husband), leads to a wave of “white knightery” and a Bill then an Act. It was covered in the Grauniad though I try not to give them my “click”.
