Mike Buchanan’s retrial for his MGM protest – Isleworth Crown Court, 3 March

Early in January I attended Isleworth Crown Court for my retrial on the charge of obstructing the traffic (for a total 49 seconds, across two points in time) during the second of two anti-MGM protests (the one in Parliament Square) last June. A video (14:52) of the protests is here.

In January the barrister appointed by the CPS admitted to the court he wasn’t adequately prepared for the trial, and asked for – and was granted – an adjournment. My thanks to E for filming and editing a video (1:27) of some stalwart supporters and myself after that.

Following a request by the judge on that day, there has been an exchange between the CPS and ourselves of documents with legal positions, arguments, and counter-arguments, and copies sent to the court. We believe the Crown’s position to be very weak, and I expect one of two outcomes on 3 March:

  • the Crown decides not to continue with the prosecution; or
  • the trial takes place, and I’ll be found ‘Not Guilty’ (there won’t be a jury).

If we’re successful, it could be a landmark victory in the struggle to end MGM in the UK, and perhaps beyond. So I hope you’ll be able to join us on the day. The court address is 34-36 Ridgeway Road, Isleworth, TW7 5NP. The trial will be in Court 5, and start at 10:00.

If we’re unsuccessful, we shall appeal again.

My warm thanks to Ian, a retired solicitor, for his invaluable help in preparing my defence.

Female social worker, 29, falsely accused of indecently assaulting girl, 9, when she was herself 14, claims she was reported by woman ‘jealous of her upbringing’

Our thanks to Nick for this. Women making false sexual offence allegations is #11 in Janet Bloomfield’s piece, 13 reasons women lie about being raped, but of course the victims – whose identities are revealed to the world, along with their photos – are almost invariably men.

Laura Bates: No feminist expects a man to pay the bill on a date

Our thanks to Martin for pointing us to the latest piece by Special Snowflake in the International Business Times. She nominates herself for a Gormless Feminist of the Month award for this alone:

Feminists would much rather equal workplace rights [such as…?] and a closed gender pay gap (with flexible working hours and affordable childcare while we’re on the subject) to allow us the means to pay for our own meal, thank you very much. In the grand scheme of things, all that seems somewhat more substantial than a sneaky free steak every once in a while.

Meanwhile, some women might choose to pay the full bill on a first date…

Yeah, and some pigs – feminist, or otherwise – might choose to fly.

BBC ‘The Big Questions’, 22 January. Is the system still stacked against women? Does prison work?

Our thanks to E for editing this (video, 40:56), just published on our YouTube channel. We’ve included a brief commentary below the video, pointing to key sections. Belinda Brown, an important contributor to The Conservative Woman website, makes some sterling contributions. It’s good to hear her robust criticisms of feminism, while Angela Epstein, a columnist with the Telegraph, rather lamely labels herself publicly as a ‘non feminist’.

Martin Daubney: Feminists Are Planning a One-Day Women’s Strike (in 2018) – I Say Bring It On

A tip of the hat to Martin Daubney for this gem.

It’s the first time I’ve seen the statistic that 47% of UK prison workers are women. The prison crisis suddenly makes a lot more sense. Whenever you see video footage of people (police, prison officers…) entering a risky situation (during a drugs raid on a property, entering a violent prisoner’s cell…) you can safely put your money on one thing. The people at the front of the queue will be men, the people behind them women. When the danger has passed, the heroic women are all too keen to be recorded for posterity, maybe kicking the heads of the physically subdued and immobile men, possibly to release some anti-male frustration. Why are the men and women in these lines of work paid the same, given the former take risks the latter don’t, you might reasonably ask? A good question. Answers on a postcard, please, to:
