    • I couldn’t resist, I blame you MB. Dipped in at a point at which La Smurth was wobbling on about some feminist conference a decade ago. At which the London pro feminist mens group (or some such) decided run the crèche.
On a serious point this reminded me that in fact all the “care” industries have in fact become proportionately more female since at least the star of the 1980s. Childcare. Schools, Social work, the NHS have in fact become less “diverse” in gender. All have seen considerable growth in the intervening 35 years and this has actually considerably shifted the “balance” to make them overwhelmingly female workforces. So not only has the family breakdown epidemic contributed to “man deserts” and separated fathers from children. The sectors providing professional care sectors have shrunk men’s resence proportionately and in a number of cases absolutely(i.e the number of males is lower than even 1980 let alone the proportion).
So for our lovely Kate, it might be nice the men’s group doing the crèche but the reality is that men are even less likely to be in “caring” employment than in the “bad” old days. Indeed less so than the time of the conference a decade ago. Don’t see Kates mates clamouring to have more men in those caring industries. A challenging target would be to match the proportions of even 10 years ago let alone the 1980s.

      • With the obvious lack of diversity within the organisations you mentioned, one has to wonder what exactly have those highly paid diversity officers, diversity managers and diversity directors been doing all day and every day.
An example I know of is a nearby college of further education. I was somewhat surprised to read in their diversity report that there seemed to be difficulty in recruiting and retaining young white male students. Surprised in that a college would even mention white male students within the victimology framework common in the ‘diversity industry’. This college is in what is generally considered to be a diverse and vibrant area within a diverse and vibrant city.
A year later and another diversity report and there was no mention of these white males; no mention of targets being set or targets being achieved. Also, the originator of the original diversity report was no longer employed at that college.

      • I read in The Times that the number of 12-16 year olds asking about gender reassignment has tripled over the last few years. I’m sure some of it is genuine, yet I have to wonder how much the demonising of all things male as violent, abusive and inclined to rape has made boys who clearly are none of these things want to disown their own sex. If that is true it is cruelty and a time-bomb for the future.

  1. Managed to get to the part where Smurthwaite talks about “toxic masculinity” and how men “have to define themselves in opposition to women”. Pretty obvious case of projection.

Also notable how the presenter puts all sorts of personal/challenging questions to the two men on the panel yet wouldn’t dare do anything of the sort to Smurthwaite.
