  1. Really interesting and well done. As a comment I think it probably easier if tempted onto discussion of “Boards” or Parliament to point out these are tiny minorities . Obvious examples of under representation of males affecting
many thousands is University Education , Teaching, Local Government and the Civil Service and so on. These all areas affecting much greater numbers than the few men and fewer women aspiring to be MPs or FTSE Board members . I do think your strength is being Everyman rather than talking about the issues of the elite. I do think this is the strength of Farage , a very different personality but similarly speaks to ordinary people’s concerns and brushes past issues important to the Westminster Village, as these aren’t of much concern to ordinary people.

I was interested in the presenters comments in Northern Ireland, with regard to women being protected from redundancy. Ni has seen high unemployment and industrial decline and huge investment in public spending to counter this. Consequently it has high employment levels of women in public services and the public sector is proportionately huge. One result is that there is no Gender Wage Gap and I wonder if the presenters comments means there is more widespread experience of positive action for women and the consequent discrimination against men in the large publicly funded sectors in NI.

  2. Pity the host couldn’t keep the discussion more ‘on-track’, although he did seem to have some sensitivity for J4Mb issues. It would be nice to see Ms Smurthwaite put under more pressure than the BBC normally gives her – being the darling of so many political discussions. By the way, I think it’s worth noting that she studied Mathematics at Lincoln College, Oxford and worked in the finance industry, so she knows how to compare the 1-in-7 and 4-in-7 stats in Hakim’s theory. (Incidentally, is it possible that Preference Theory is starting to look a bit long-in-the-tooth now and could [probably erroneously] be dismissed as such and as being ‘discredited’ now?)

Why did the host try and cram a couple of call-ins in the last few minutes? Mind you, The-Man-Who-Called-Kate-Smurthwaite-‘Darling’ (Oh dear!) was making an important point if it could have been translated, which is why, from a feminist standpoint, can’t we see bare breasts in a newspaper, but it is compulsory when a baby is stuck on the end of one, in hotels, restaurants, trains etc. (Interesting point, Mike, which Kate may not have thought of, which is; how many lesbians are secretly going to miss ‘Page 3’!)

I note that Kate was married to a man, although is now separated. I presume any subsequent divorce will be handled ‘equally’ – because that’s what feminists want isn’t it?

Great to hear important issues being aired though. More power to J4Mb elbows.

  3. interesting tactic to just talk all over Mike and never let him speak to try to win the “debate”, only really one step up from Smurthwaite putting her fingers in her hears and going “la la la I can’t hear you”. What awful radio.
