Herbert Purdy: ‘Malala Yousafzai: far better than a martyr for feminism’

I knew I must be among many who have witnessed with dismay a young Pakistani woman, Malala Yousafzai, gradually becoming a pawn of feminists in the UN and elsewhere. An insightful new piece by Herbert Purdy is both timely and welcome.

  1. In addition the message of this young woman, that the primitive fanaticism of the Taliban, Islamic State and so on should be rejected has indeed been coopted by people far more concerned about posh jobs in the richest and most advanced cities, in comfortable and safe countries. Of course the “people” who fought and died to reopen schools in Afghanistan were almost all male . It seems when rights need fighting for in parts of the world where they are in short supply , then young male squaddies are just the thing. But the “rights” this young woman’s face is used to front are those of Sex in the City( so oppressed by Jimmy Choo). In her earlier interviews Malala was clear that girls and boys should have proper education( as the Taliban “educated” boys only in reciting holy scripture) It has indeed shifted now.
Mr. Purdy is indeed quite right to share Orwell’s insights on totalitarian ideologues in action. Gender feminism is after all the last of the heresies of Marxism.
