Sargon of Akkad: ‘The lunatics have taken over the asylum’

My thanks to Tom, an American I met last week at the Detroit conference, for pointing me to this video in which the British blogger ‘Sargon of Akkad’ provides a wonderful commentary on my last interview on London Live TV. I thank Sargon of Akkad warmly for his contribution to the war against the enemies of men and boys.

  1. Viewing this again, I was struck by the “vox pops” bits and the young black guy commenting on the double standard applied where women’s comments about men’s bums and sexual innuendo is ignored, but similar from men would be jumped on. This reminded me of a series of conversations with my offspring. Set off by the clearly stricter dress codes for males at sixth form and then at (office) work. Sons and daughter have spontaneously noted the double standard, and are troubled by it. Though it is easy to think this is trivial, I think the black man’s disquiet, like that of my offspring, is a place to start. These “petty” applications actually are a start to wider thinking about the ways society actually is more restrictive / policing of males. Focussing on “unfairness” with key into the disquiet of generations taught to support equality yet experience unfairness even if over small things. This big gap between supposed equity and the experiences of differential expectations is, I suggest, the place to start.
