All too predictable:

Acid attacks – telling only half the story
An interesting new piece by Dan Perrins:
Newsnight: Should buying sex be illegal in England and Wales, as it is in Sweden, Norway and Iceland?
An outstanding piece on Newsnight last night:

From the programme commentary:
Next week a parliamentary inquiry in the UK will recommend we reject legalisation (of prostitution) and criminalise the buying of sex for the first time.
Doubtless the ‘inquiry’ will have been dominated by feminists and their male collaborators. I can’t recall any coverage of this in leading newspapers or elsewhere. These damnable people are expert manipulators of what is supposed to be a parliamentary democracy, as we saw with the whole ‘women in boardrooms’ question. In that case, all members of House of Lords and House of Commons ‘inquiries’ pursued feminist-friendly directions – even the Conservatives, to their eternal shame.
In our public consultation document we call for full decriminalisation of sex work in the UK, along the New Zealand model. After watching this edition of Newsnight, we’ll be looking at the German model. Judging by the programme, it’s working very well for both sex workers and their clients.
There are a number of sections of interest in the programme, which will be available until 27 February. Before then we hope to post an edited version of the programme. The sections:
00:27 – 00:50 Introduction
17:31 – 25:44 Mainly coverage of the position concerning prostitution in Germany, where ‘mega brothels’ are flourishing. Video footage from the largest German brothel, in Stuttgart, is included.
25:45 – 35:05 Studio discussion ably hosted by Laura Kuenssberg, with four female contributors.
The first two contributors were sharply intelligent and highly erudite:
Laura Lee, a sex worker and member of the International Union of Sex Workers.
Dr Belinda Brooks-Gordon, an academic and author of the book The Price of Sex.
In stark contrast were the supporters of the ‘Swedish model’ in which buyers of sex are criminalised:
Mary Honeyball MEP, a dour Labour politician (Harriet Harman could be her cheery sister) who can usually be relied upon to talk utter nonsense, and doesn’t disappoint here.
Dorcas Erskine of ‘The Poppy Project’.
These two women were shameless in delivering their misleading ideologically-driven narratives. Any reasonable-minded person who was undecided about the issues surrounding this subject would surely have been convinced by this Newsnight episode that full legalisation of prostitution is the only way to go, for the sake of sex workers and their clients.
Men, women and murder (and an apology from Julie Bindel)
[Note added 2.3.14: Following account just published on ‘A Voice for Men’:

Four weeks ago I was a speaker in a debate at Durham University, arguing for the motion, ‘This House believes feminists are all too often sexists in disguise’. One of the two women opposing the motion was Julie Bindel, a prominent lesbian gender feminist journalist. She publicly accused me of having lied in my presentations, so I thought it timely to publish this:

Laura Bates whines about… oh, I don’t know, something to do with women and sport, I think… wah, wah, wah, wah, wah!!!
Out thanks to a number of people who alerted us to this story:
We were undecided about whether to do a post on it, but our favourite professional whine merchant Laura Bates is quoted in the piece (below) so we just had to do a post:
Laura Bates, founder of the Everyday Sexism project, insisted Miss Grant was wrong to focus on the looks of sportswomen and suggest the purpose of sport is to be ‘girlie and feminine’.
“We shouldn’t say women should only do sports while they look radiant and beautiful. It’s actually discouraging for a minister to say this. It suggests the problem is coming from the young women themselves, when I think a big problem is societal response.”
‘It suggests the problem is coming from the young women themselves…’. Young women not playing as much sport as young men can NOT be attributed to the choices freely made, or not made, by young women. Women must never be held accountable for the consequences of their actions and inactions. No siree…
£500,000 payout for museum boss over mental trauma of paramedics arriving 17 minutes late when she dislocated knee on the bus home
Thousands of homeless men in the UK (and a few homeless women) once worked in the military, and have undiagnosed and untreated mental disorders, notably Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The support available for these people is woefully poor and often non-existent. Remember this when you read the following article:

An epidemic of narcissism-by-proxy
A phenomenon we can observe in every busy street and store in Britain today:
Ally Fogg on suicide
An interesting article by Ally Fogg in the Guardian:
http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/feb/20/britain-male-suicide-rate-tragedy-failure
It starts:
In 1981, 2,466 women in the UK took their own lives. Three decades later, thanks to improvements in psychiatric and emergency care medicine, to a range of suicide prevention barriers and policies and, perhaps, to gradual social, political and personal empowerment, the number in 2012 had almost halved to 1,391.
In 1981, 4,129 men in the UK took their own lives. Three decades later, despite improvements in psychiatric and emergency care medicine, a range of suicide prevention barriers and policies and, arguably, some degree of social, political and personal empowerment, the number in 2012 had risen to 4,590.
The claim that British men have enjoyed, ‘arguably, some degree of social, political and personal empowerment’ in the past 30+ years might be Ally Fogg’s conviction, but to most people with an interest in men’s human rights it will appear ridiculous. British men have suffered nothing other than disempowerment on many fronts for 30+ years. This must surely have contributed to the fact that the male/female suicide rate differential has almost doubled over that period.
