Wife of scandal-hit NHS chief overpaid hospital staff £1.3m: 634 overpayments handed out Birmingham Children’s Hospital

Another day, another tale of gross incompetence:

We can be sure Sarah-Jane Marsh will neither resign over this matter, nor be fired. In 2002 she was a graduate trainee, and just seven years later she was appointed the chief executive of Birmingham Children’s Hospital, on a salary of £155,000 p.a. Were there really no more experienced and better-qualified candidates for such a senior role? It beggars belief.

New proposals – transferable personal tax allowances, parental leave

With just 15 months left before the 7 May 2015 general election, we’re starting to spend more time reviewing the feedback received on our public consultation document, the precursor to our general election manifesto. Today we’ve added proposals on two areas we’re not covered before, transferable tax allowances and paternal leave. The proposals, along with a little associated background information, are to be found on pp 5,6 of our updated public consultation document, highlighted in yellow:

We look forward to reading your comments on the proposals.
