Malcolm Buchanan RIP

I’ve just learned that after a long illness, my beloved 90-year-old father unexpectedly passed away this morning. He was a wonderful man in every respect – the kindest, gentlest, most generous man I’ve ever known. He jumped onto one of the Normandy beaches on his 21st birthday, not long after D-Day, in June 1944. An expert in Morse code, he was in the communications team supporting General Montgomery.

He arguably belonged to the last generation of British men who weren’t automatically vilified on account of their gender. Both men and women were accorded respect by default when he was a young man, growing up in the Western Isles of Scotland.

Goodbye Dad, thank you for being such an awesome father at all times, and may you rest in peace.

Lots of love as always,

Michael xxx

  1. Mike, I have been very busy and only just read this. I am so sorry. My sincere condolences and God bless. I’m sure your Father was proud. Keep strong. Kindest regards.

    • Vadark, thank you, very kind. He was a wonderful man, from another era. Just like men today, he slaved and sacrificed much for women and children, but back then men were respected as a result, not reviled. Women will come to sorely regret the day they decided to demonise men.
