The Amanda Hutton case. When women abuse their children to the point they die, why is it described as ‘neglect’?

My thanks to a supporter, Tom, for directing me to the BBC’s coverage of a tragic case in which a woman’s four-year-old son starved to death. He was so malnourished that he still fitted in a baby grow suitable for a six-month-old infant when he died.

Tom makes the following sound points:

This is a horrific case of child abuse. However, when abuse is committed by women it’s ‘neglect’ … I cannot see how this is ‘neglect’ … it is violence and abuse of the most sickening kind.
