Melanie Phillips: ‘I despair of a Tory party that bribes mothers to get others to take care of their children’

David Cameron’s relentless and enthusiastic pursuit of feminist agendas includes assaulting single-earner families, in a manner reminiscent of the Labour administrations of 1997-2010. He really must be Harriet Harman’s poster boy by now. My thanks to SB for pointing me to an outstanding piece by Melanie Phillips in a recent Daily Mail:

  1. It’s punishing stay at home parents and rewarding those who send children to day care. Sending a child to day care is telling a child that you don’t care. Working parents have less energy to be good parents.

Is it any wonder that society is broken?

In my judgement, a ‘managerial state’ tries to undermine the sovereignty of institutions it is in direct competition with, namely the nuclear family, community, church, friendly societies and private associations. Along with welfare, this creates more state dependency which is the ultimate goal of any bureaucracy. With more adults going into work, there is a corporate interest too.
