Andrew Malkinson, released after 17 years in prison for a rape he didn’t commit, guest edits BBC Today programme (Friday, 29 December)

Back in July we published a piece with the title Andrew Malkinson, 57, served 17 years in prison for a rape he did not commit furiously slams ‘liar’ police and recounts how he feared for his life in jail – while telling victim of the crime the system ‘let us both down’ as Court of Appeal clears him. 15 minutes ago we received an email from Matt and Emma, the co-founders of APPEAL, the full text:
Dear APPEAL Supporter, Two quick things this morning from us. First, our client Andy Malkinson is guest editor for BBC Radio 4’s Today programme – you can tune in or catch up here. Second, please consider making a donation to support our seasonal crowdfund and help us bring home more innocent prisoners like Andy – click here to make a donation. Andy spent 17 years in prison for a crime he did not commit – but APPEAL proved his innocence. Andy now plans to spend his life exploring the world and advocating for transformation of the system that failed him. On Radio 4 this morning Andy will be exploring the impact wrongful convictions have on individuals and their families, and how he survived his seventeen and a half years in prison by liberating his mind through the study of mathematics, physics and astronomy. You can also read his powerful article in iNews about a British Justice system in denial about its mistakes here. We receive hundreds of requests from other prisoners who urgently need our help – and yours. Please make a donation today to help fund the fight for people like Andy  – he is not the only one. Thank you for your support always. Emma and Matt Co-Directors, APPEAL

Wetherspoon boss and Brexit campaigner Tim Martin is handed a knighthood after Kemi Badenoch reportedly pushed for pub landlord to be honoured

Good news. Tim Martin is the inspiring businessman behind the JD Wetherspoon’s chain of affordable pubs and hotels (I’m a big fan of their large breakfasts). He’s also a very tall man (at least 6’6” tall, I’d guess). Wearing a bodycam on my chest, I interviewed him outside a Tory party conference some years ago, while we were protesting against Male Genital Mutilation. I was disappointed later to see that the video didn’t extend as high up as his face.

BBC breaks silence over EastEnders ‘misandry’ row as fans blast Christmas storyline for ‘man-hating’ scenes

A tip of the hat to GB News for this. The end of the piece:
Addressing the outrage days after the scenes aired, a BBC spokesperson told GB News: “EastEnders is a fictional drama and our regular viewers have come to expect big dramatic storylines, especially at Christmas. “This year’s story began in February 2023 and throughout the year we have taken great care to signpost the storyline prior to transmission, through on-air continuity and publicity.”
How, precisely, was that, “addressing the outrage”? The sooner the BBC is completely defunded, and has to rely solely on subscriptions for its existence, the better. But politicians are terrified of the BBC’s power to make or break them.

Man praised for refusing to swap seats with pregnant woman on plane

Our thanks to Steve for this. He writes:
Perhaps more acts of defiance against female privilege are coming.
We can but hope.

Melanie Phillips: The Sex-Change Society (Feminised Britain and the Neutered Male)

A new piece by Melanie Phillips. It relates to her prescient 361-page book The Sex-Change Society: Feminised Britain and the Neutered Male (1999). I’m pleased to own a copy. The cheapest (used) copy currently available on Amazon is £34.99 – here. Melanie Phillips explains the unfortunate history of the book in her article. Some years ago I emailed the Social Market Foundation, the original publisher, noting the book was out of print, and asked for permission to publish it though my venture LPS Publishing. I didn’t receive a reply, and now I know why.

Part 1: What We Learned in 2023 (Professor Matt Goodwin)

Another excellent piece from Professor Matt Goodwin, a Professor of Politics at Kent University, who will be a Guest of Honour at ICMI24 in Budapest. You can subscribe to his Substack – link here – for just £5.00pcm for the coming few days, on January 1st the cost will increase. I can’t think of any more perceptive commentators on British politics, Matt also provides valuable insights into politics outside the UK, as he does in this latest article, which covers 10 issues:
  1. Multiculturalism Isn’t Working.

  2. Something’s Rotten in the Universities.

  3. The Politics of Immigration is Back.

  4. National Populism is Here to Stay.

  5. Woke Ideology is a Serious Problem.

  6. Legacy Media is in Retreat.

  7. Something’s Wrong With Gen-Z.

  8. British Conservatism is Completely Lost.

  9. The New Elite is (Still) in a World of its Own.

  10. People Want An Alternative.

Joey Barton calls it ‘nonsense’ and ‘tokenism’ that ex-Liverpool Women’s goalkeeper Rachel Brown-Finnis is included as expert by Amazon for the Reds’ win over Burnley… as he carries on crusade against female pundits

Interesting. The piece (by a male journalist!) starts, obsequiously, with this:
Joey Barton continued his sexist campaign against female pundits…
I seldom watch soccer other than World Cups, but friends tell me the female pundits are embarrassingly poor, and predictably obsessed by the emotional side of the game. One told me that one such pundit asked a Premier League footballer after a game how he felt about the result, to which he replied:
I feel we lost 3-1. Next question?
