Political leanings of two judges involved in Epping migrant hotel case – and who they sided with

Interesting. The start of the piece:

“The Appeal Court judge who ruled in favour of Home Secretary Yvette Cooper in the Epping migrant hotel case is a long-standing Labour supporter.

Lord Justice David Bean, 71, is a former treasurer of the Society of Labour Lawyers and chaired the left-leaning Fabian Society, which is affiliated to the Labour Party, in 1989 and 1990.

He was also – with Sir Tony Blair’s barrister wife Cherie – a founder member in 2000 of the left-wing Matrix Chambers, whose members include the current attorney general, Lord Hermer.

On its website, the Society of Labour Lawyers describes itself as “a thinktank and affiliated socialist society which provides legal and policy advice to the Labour Party”.

Angela Rayner plots ‘chicken run’ to safe seat as Deputy PM ‘terrified’ about Nigel Farage’s surge

Interesting. An extract:

“Ms Rayner held off a challenge from Reform’s 2024 challenger Robert Barrowcliffe by just 6,791 votes, with the Tories slumping into a distant third-place. Meanwhile, Hove & Portslade, where Ms Rayner has now purchased a seaside flat for almost £800,000, returned Technology Secretary Peter Kyle with a majority of 19,881 votes.”

Charlotte Proudman: “If I were a man.”

A tweet from a couple of years ago. Note the text on one of the seat backs, “Not all disabilities are visible.” The irony would surely be lost on Proudman, given she surely has both Narcissistic Personaity Disorder and Toxic Feminist Disorder.

Naughty children ‘wrongly being diagnosed with mental illness and special needs’

Our thanks to Nigel for this. He writes:

“There is rightly concern that this “diagnosing” results in the diagnosed becoming the young men on disability benefits once they leave school. However in recent years the diagnosing of ADHD and ASD in girls has rocketed so in a few years we’ll see similar leap up of young women living a life on benefits.

I saw the drivers for this when I was working. Having a child with SEN not only has benefits in school (teaching assistants, free Tech. and being able to get rid of boys to specialist “units” or schools) but also for the parents who can claim benefits based on the care needs of their child. So you end up with families with all their children SEN. What really started off as a means to deal with failures in classroom and behavioural management of boys has become a huge machine. I suppose it spreading to girls is some form of “equality”.

The start of the article in the Express:

“Former health secretary Sir Jeremy Hunt has backed a new study that warns huge numbers of children are being wrongly diagnosed with mental illness or special needs when many are simply feeling sad or misbehaving. One in five school pupils is now classed as having special educational needs (SEND).

Half of all schools’ spending since 2015 has gone on SEND, with costs hitting £11billion a year in 2024-25. More than £1.1billion will be spent on taxis alone for SEND students by 2030. Sir Jeremy said: “As a society, we seem to have lost sight of the fundamental reality that child development is a messy and uneven process.

“Our laudable desire to ensure young people are happy and well-supported is at times manifesting in excessive impulses to medicalise and diagnose the routine, in a manner that can undercut grit and resilience.”

ENGLAND: Men ‘condemned to die’ as NHS won’t buy cheap prostate cancer drug (less than £2.50/day).

Scandalous (Times, £). The drug is Abiraterone, which is freely available in Scotland and Wales. A trial in 2022 showed it would save 672 lives a year if the NHS made it available for a cohort of 8,400 men [J4MB: those with aggressive prostate cancer that had not yet spread] each year. Research also suggests Abiraterone would save the NHS £5,000 a year per patient [J4MB: more than 5x the cost of the drug.] by reducing treatment costs associated with the cancer spreading.

Susan Pearson, ‘Miss Holiday’ benefits cheat, 58, who sponged over £40,000 in Universal Credit payments to go on so many trips pals joked she clocked up ‘more air miles than Air Force One’ is spared jail because vagina

Our thanks to Ken for this. An extract:

“The court heard she could have faced up to two years in jail under sentencing guidelines. She broke down in tears as the judge told her she would walk free.

Judge Nicholas Clarke KC told her: ‘I am sure you are thoroughly ashamed of yourself to be in the dock at that age. But I do not want you to remain in the anxious state that I can see you are in so I want you to know you are not going to prison today. [J4MB emphasis. Words never said by a judge to a male criminal facing prison.] But you will need to make arrangements to pay the compensation.’ [J4MB: It appears from the article that the woman will pay back the money from her savings, but not face any punishment for her crime.]

He added: ‘In my judgment that should be sufficient to let her start again… The thing is, at 58, she has lost her good name. She admitted the matter as soon as she could before the courts.’ “
