In Canada, the government of Justin Trudeau has managed to save $18 million over the next four years by reducing payments to disabled veterans. This marks a u-turn from their 2015 manifesto pledge to bring back the ‘Pension for Life’ program and has been labelled a ‘betrayal’.

Man who was homeless for 20 years turns life around to be voted London’s happiest bus driver

A good news story in the Evening Standard about a man who’s overcome a challenging start in life, including stints in prison and long term homelessness, to be identified as London’s happiest bus driver. Patrick Lawson said: “My favourite part [of being a bus driver] is going out there and just meeting passengers. I want to greet every single person when they come on the bus and when they leave, and I have done that from day one with a big smile. Some passengers look at me in shock when I do it.”

Elizabeth Hobson’s Letter to Maria Miller

Just before Christmas I sent a letter to Maria Miller, Chair of the Women and Equalities Committee, along with copies to all members of the committee.

I pointed out the sexist bias of the committee and their neglect of issues pertaining to men and boys (whilst acknowledging the positive input of Philip Davies) – and offered the expertise of myself and Mike Buchanan to help inform them of said issues. I will update the blog with details of any responses in due course.

Excellent article by Chris Salcedo referencing the wisdom of Warren Farrell, “The boy crisis resides where fathers do not reside.”

Suspended over sexual harassment complaints at work, Noida techie commits suicide

Another #MeToo suicide.

In his suicide note, Swaroop Raj wrote to his wife:

“I want to let you know how much I love you. Two of the employees have alleged me with sexual harassment but trust me I didn’t do anything. I know the world will understand this but you and your families should trust me. The allegations are baseless and the entire Genpact will soon know about it, I don’t have the courage to face everyone. I want you to be strong and live your life with respect, your husband has not done anything. I am leaving because everyone will look at me with eyes of disgust even if I come clean.”
