It has been confirmed that Antonia Romeo has been appointed as the new Cabinet Secretary, becoming the first woman to lead the civil service. As the Civil Service’s Gender Champion, one of Romeo’s first roles was to set up the Gender Equality Leadership Group, a group of director general level gender champions from all departments. She has evidently long been obsessed with identity politics, the last thing the civil service needs, but in line with Keir Starmer’s obsession with the matter.
A piece (£) in the Telegraph, which is expected to be sold shortly for £500 million to Daily Mail and General Trust. An extract:
“Dame Antonia Romeo told a civil servant to join a “gender non-conforming book club” as part of their performance review.
The new Cabinet Secretary set out plans for the former staff member to spend one day a week on inclusivity programmes when she was head of the Department for International Trade (DIT) from 2017 to 2021.
These included helping to raise “awareness and visibility of non-binary identities” and attending the book club, according to documents reviewed by The Telegraph.
The employee was told to spend up to 20 per cent of their time fulfilling inclusivity goals such as encouraging colleagues to display their preferred pronouns and “recruiting non-binary staff”.”

She exemplifies what many ex ministers complain about in the Civil Service. That their officials busy themselves with “peripheral” issues such as these while dragging their feet, in a “Yes Minister” manner of endless meetings and checking with other depts, quangos and “sectors”. “Busy” but successfully applying a dead hand to any significant change. “Diversity” being ideal for this as there are a myriad of “genders” “beliefs” “ethnicities” “disabilities” “health issues” to create a miasma of groups/ communities/committees/ advisors.
