Reading the list of so called “scholarly harassment” it’s clear the authors are from the feminism/gender studies world of “advocacy research”‘”lived experience” “textual analysis” producing the nonsense so hilariously satirised by three academics getting papers published in academic journals.
I disagree with Nuzzo’s analysis that the idea reflects weakness. It reflects the understanding that feigning upset as a woman immediately has power in mobilising others to protect you and to direct sanctions against the upsetter. In short white knightery. Gynocentrism. Given the already established success of this strategy in Academia on both racism and sexism grounds it seems logical to use the tactics whenever possible. Certainly to protect weak work from rigorous (or even superficial) challenge.
