Our thanks to Nigel for this. He writes:
“This is interesting in the context of the focus on men not getting on with family forming. Of course France is not the only European country concerned about too few babies. The smaller nations are probably even more concerned as most from “right” to “left” have natalist policies. Even here there are some signs of concern. What interested me about this was the practical approach, basically reminding women about their biological clock and ideas for freezing eggs. For the truth is that women “gate keep” reproduction for the simple reason of biology. And as it points out their biological clock runs out far faster than men.
Of course in this country such mention of practical biology has got people “cancelled” because of the feminist fantasies about choice, even if the menopause has struck. Of course as yet no one has tackled that other inconvenient fact, that each year circa 100,000 new lives are snuffed out through abortion in this country alone. It will be interesting as “western” nations see their populations fall, to see how real and un PC their debate grows as they struggle with having many fewer, Danes, Swedes, Hungarians, Checks, Finns, Latvians as well as French or Germans to name a few that have policies and campaigns to stop their decline. Probably last to the party will be the UK because in reality we’ve been filling the gap by importing people.”

And just to prove my point about the UK the “Independent” Reform by-election candidate calls for ‘young girls’ to be given ‘biological reality’ check – AOL In which the biological truth is called “vile misogyny” and Novel and TV Series “Handmaids Tale” is invoked. On the plus side the Independent does inadvertently give a good account of the effect of “feminisation” on Cancel Culture in Universities. As a confirmation of the Reform position, that there needs to be a “grown up debate”. I’d cite the impeccably left wing, female led, Government of Denmark currently engaged in a similar political debate about having more Danish babies and policies to encourage this including tax advantages to married couples and poster campaigns. I personally doubt the Danes will be successful but they are clearly not thinking its “utterly astonishing, misogynistic, and vile” as Lucy Powell (Labour MP) would call them.
It is ironic that its “Brexity” Reform that calls for “grown-up, mature debate about how we can encourage people to have more children and support British families.” To be lambasted for raising an issue which off hand I can’t think of any European country that isn’t debating and trialling what are often called “natalist” policies to address concerns about falling birthrates and populations. As I say behind this is a conviction (whatever the Gov. left or right) that there should be lots of Finns, Danes, French……. etc. etc. in the world, rather than non or few. Apparently except in the UK. Truly bizarre.

Perhaps its wicked of me but I do wonder how many of the “Journalists” are themselves childless women supposedly “proudly childless” yet wondering “where have all the good men gone?”.
