  1. On the “women suffer most in war” theme. This illustrates the truth. Angelina Jolie’s guide ordered to register at conscription office during visit to Ukrainian front Angelina visiting in typical lady bountiful hollywood style, loses one of her Ukrainian drivers to Ukrainian Authorities as he’s whisked off into their armed forces. In one way unsurprising given the 90,000 men casualties of the grinding trench warfare in the east of the country. In the story it doesn’t appear he was “draft dodging” so much as had the wrong papers. But it illustrates the very different rights and responsibilities of men and women in that (and most other) countries. As we know millions of women fled abroad and their men were stopped from travel, martial law kept working (fighting) age men n the country and then drafted them into armed forces, where thousands have died or been physically or mentally maimed. Many women have stayed and supported their men of course, but they have choices and freedoms those men don’t have. Of course Angelina visits civilian sites and quizzes a little girl about her “dreams”. Yet one of the striking features of this war is the very small number of civilian casualties (compared to the Yugoslav disintegration, Gaza, Vietnam not to mention WW2) as both sides have evacuated civilians ahead of the Stalingrad like ordinance and soldier duels. That have resulted in massive loss of male lives on both sides and a high level of disabling injuries.
