Overall Accidental Drowning in 2022 (the latest full year of data): Total accidental fatalities from drowning in the UK: 226 deaths. Female: 42 deaths (19% of total) Male: 184 deaths (81% of total)
Drowning in the Bath typically accounts for around 6-7% of all accidental drownings each year. Even for drowning in a bath, men usually outnumber women each year!
Men are significantly over-represented in the major categories of non-illness related deaths that are most likely to occur at home, including suicide and poisoning.
Suicides (total UK Deaths (2022), 5,642): Men account for roughly 3 out of every 4 deaths. (Roughly every two hours in the UK, a man takes his own life. 85% of them have sought help in the previous twelve months, almost half of them in the prior 3 months.)
Accidental Poisoning (total UK Deaths (2022), 4,907): Men account for roughly 2 out of every 3 deaths.
Without an official Men’s Minister, there has bee no push (as there has been from the many ministers for women over many years, on female deaths) to define any of these odd and excessive deaths at home as the result of domestic abuse.
