“Ms Rayner’s Working Group had launched a “call for evidence”– but only behind closed doors and to a small group of carefully selected activist organisations.” Just to remind people that this has been the same for “consultations” about Domestic Abuse and Sexual Offensives. In the previous Parliament the “Istanbul Convention” was passed into UK “law”. An important part of this is to make criticism of feminism both a criminal offense and defined as “terrorism” if actively protested. As in this instance with Islamophobia this will be done, probably under a tile purporting to address “misogyny” (and no doubt the global threat of Andrew Tate), with an equally obscure “consultation” followed by “statutory guidance” to all public bodies. Its important to note that those bodies will follow that Guidance , even if it is unlawful. A good case in point is “non crime hate incidents” still being recorded despite Court rulings stating these are unlawful.
This issue is not just about Islamophobia. Through hard work the recent Domestic Abuse legislation was “gender neutral” despite feminists lobbying hard to make it “gendered” (i.e. men always evil) and another lot of work to prevent the statutory guidance being “gendered”. So exposing this sort of stuff and mobilising lobbyists and MPs and “Lords” can make at least some difference. Of course this is precisely why the Gov. of the day does its best to make sure few actually know about such changes and “consultations).
